Visio TV DNLA Trouble

I have a Vizio E291i-A1 and I am trying to use the DNLA standard via Serviio to stream my media library to the TV. Music works fine, but video will not play. I know that I must use the AVI file format, but the TV shows that even AVI files are MPG. I have even set the TV's IP address in the Serviio console to "Vizio" but it continues to do the same thing.
Has anyone else had this issue and been able to resolve it, or may know a way to correct this?
Thanks!

Re: Visio TV DNLA Trouble

I have the same problem with my Vizio E241i-A1. I added folders to the library, and they contain AVI files I can play on the PC and have played on the Vizio with other DLNA servers (Windows Media Player 11 and KooRaRoo). But Serviio converted them to MPG and the Vizio will not play them and does not list their duration after the title in the onscreen directory.

I tried changing the device profile to 'Generic' instead of Vizio but that made no difference.

Hopefully someone with more experience can figure this out for us!

Re: Visio TV DNLA Trouble

Well, after hours and hours of investigation and testing, I gave up on Serviio (and one or two other free servers) because I just couldn't get it to work. I had tried it a year ago, and gave up then too.

I've gone back to enabling media sharing in Windows Media Player. That wasn't great, mainly slow getting the directory listings, and you can't select category names that show up on the media list (like pictures, music, last played, etc.). But I found that by making playlists and using those instead of browsing folders that it works quicker and smoother making selections. And it works with both my Vizios, an M420SL and an E241i-A1.

Vizios don't work with MKV container files, and not with AVI's that use the DivX codec. But I used a free fourCC code changer tool to change the fourCC codec code in the metadata of those files to say DIVX and then they play just fine. The Vizio will also play video files with the MPEG-4 codec, and WMV (WMV9) video files.

Have you tried one of the other profiles? I've had some success with the DirectTV profile but it's hit or miss
