What's recommanded hardware configuration for transcoding?

Hi! I have a server who run serviio 1.1. It have an AMD Athlon(tm) II X2 250
with 2 gb of ram and 2tb of HDD. It is okay to transcode. But on a couple of video I have an audio/sync problem... I have specified 2 core for transcoding, best video quality and keep original audio. Thanks for your advice.
My Setup : BDT220 Panasonic Bluray player, TC-L55ET5 and TC-L42ET5 Panasonic TV. My home media server run Serviio 1.4.2 Pro under GNU/Linux Ubuntu 14.04 LTS server x64 and the hardware is Amd 1045t Phenom II X6, 6Gb DDR3 1333 mhz on SSD and data on soft raid 5 (3x1tb).

Try lowering the video quality to see if it helps.

Overall it will depend on the source file that needs to be transcoded what cpu you'll need to transcode real time. I've got an atom dual core, it can't quite do mkv to mpeg2 at 720p low quality, original audio but anything lower res it can manage. I've not tried 1080p as that would be pointless.

I've got a Athlon 240e not dis-similar to your 250, its an older CPU and not that powerful really but does a job.

i3 or i5 would be much faster. Cheaper solution would be to play to a device you don't need to transcode too i.e a cheap media player that can do all formats.

Well, at this point I can confirm in my case that it's not a CPU/memory issue. I have upgraded my cpu for an AMD 6cores and 4gb of ram and the audio out of sync problem is still present. I have already started a new topic with a better title. http://forum.serviio.org/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=8773
