MKV keeps cutting off on Samsung UE40C6510

Hi all,

It seems for the past two versions (I always upgrade on request) that certain MKV files just keep cutting out after 4/5 minutes, if I go back to the same video then play again it'll cut out in a different place, jumping to the next video. I've NEVER had this issue prior to the recent updates, the only issue I did encounter was that pausing on my TV ended up crashing the video a few minutes after resuming playing.

I'm not fussed about the extra features that a "Pro" copy gives, I'm just very content with a good quality streamer as Serviio but recently it seems to have encountered issues.

If there's a way of downgrading I'll be more than happy to do that.

Might not be due to Serviio but could be:

- your TV firmware update
- your network quality
- your router quality
- traffic on your network
- etc.

Many thanks for the reply, however nothing other than the update of Serviio has changed, the network still works and hasn't been altered, no notification of update on TV. I can't categorically say that Serviio is at fault but out of the components it's the only thing that has changed.

Are you on wifi or wired? If wifi, it could be down to higher traffic on your channel.

Always wired, don't trust or feel WiFi could handle streaming. I've never experienced this issue previously, Serviio has been a trusted part of my pc reinstall time after time, and this won't change - it's perfect for what I need, I just need to find out if it's Serviio causing this -- as I said there is an issue with pausing, it'll cut out after a few mins after unpausing.

I've had exactly the same issues on samsung kit. The files which cut out are ALWAYS ones which i couldn't fast fwd or rwd. With my problem the file ALWAYS cut out in EXACTLY the same place though so it could be a different problem to yours. Someone else tried it with plex and the same file cut out so it looks like the problem is the Samsung, but i never prooved that conclusively. For me, renaming the files to .m2ts worked a treat - give it a go and let me know.

Thanks, I'll give that a go, for me it's more intermittent, no particular point of an MKV, just every 5/6 minutes (happened again last night). I have to admit that I have Virgin Superhub which seems to be really letting me down connection-wise so it's possible that may not be helping the issue (thanks Virgin!)

ah fair enough. A good thing to do to would be to run a continuous ping from your serviio server (mac? windows? nas machine?) to the ip address of your samsung whilst you're watching a movie. When the movie cuts out, ctrl-c and check the ping output and see if all the sequence numbers are in sequence and none are missing. Also check the packet loss %age. If there's no packet loss you can probably conclude your network is OK.

It's running from my PC, although this issue has only recently started and have been using it steadily for a few years now, that's why I'm confused but the "Shyte-Hub" provided by Virgin is definitely a suspect!

How would I run a continuous ping from my pc? I know how to ping, just not repeatedly.

OK - just do ping -t <ip address of samsung telly> and it'll just pinging until you ctrl-c it.

Also - are they fairly recent mkvs which are cutting out? Or are ones cutting out which previously worked? Anyway - give that rename a go as well.

Thanks will give that a go, I watched one last night with no issues, but the previous night it happened multiple times trying to watch a 1 hour programme - it does appear to be hit and miss.

I'll probably be trying again tonight so will let you know results.
