For future reference, how can one (me) tell? if it wants to install special codec when u play with VLC/WMP its infected.

only odd thing i see is " Writing library : AVS " and when you look at normal file u see " Writing application: HandBrake 0.9.5 2011010300 " but then again that art of trojans ( no it not a virus its a trojan ) and thats fooling the system/user into thinking the file is legit.

The only idea I have would be to try the sony bluray profile that Cerberus suggested. Keep in mind the extent of my knowledge on this topic is listed above (ie: close to nothing).

*** Update --another poster recommended going to Ubuntu 10.10 ... so I upgraded, and just restarted new version, and the M2TS files play beautifully !! Thanks for the obvious suggestion ..

In this case it's a fresh install of Ubuntu and from past experience with Win Media player after a fresh OS install you may still need to install a few random codecs. I'm unfamiliar with what information one can extract from these file types with these tools. So I was hoping malicious intent would be easier to spot (wishful thinking I know). :)

No biggie. That's one of the ones that does play.

I ran the DivFix on novid2.avi and no go. It plays in Win or Ubuntu's media player but no go on the N2000.

Thanks again!

Just curious how to tell in linux/ubuntu what version of FFmpeg is running (I am assuming the latest, but want to verify)

Re: Sony SMP-N200 Profile?

Hey guys. So I'm really new to this - I'm not sure if this is the proper place to post this but its the only thread I see directly addressing the SMP-N200.

I am trying to add the wimp.com RSS feed to Serviio. I have downloaded and installed both wimp plugins (tried one, the other, and both), have the correct profile selected, and have updated FFMPEG to the latest version. Still when I navigate to the folder I created for WIMP on my N200, it gives me "There is no playable file." Does anyone here know of something that I am not doing properly?

Thank you all and I truly appreciate all of your hard work!!

Re: Sony SMP-N200 Profile?

I've just purchased a Sony SMP200 and have been fiddling with several different DLNA servers on my Ubuntu 11.10 server. Plex and Mobilitv show up fine on the Sony, however the files don't play. It looks as if Serviio is the choice Sony DLNA server however I cannot get it to show up on the Sony. I can see the SMP200 fine in the Serviio console and it shows as "green". very strange... Any ideas?

Re: Sony SMP-N200 Profile?

I have an N200 US model and the only thing the BD profile would pass through is xvid avi, all other formats would report no content or bad format. I went to the Bravia 2011 Us profile and it plays everything, downside being that all MP4 and hd mkv get transcoded and show incorrect perspective(unless I had a 16/9 television), all AVIs are transcoded as well but perspective remains correct (so long as they are SD, they look better transcoded as well).

On the plus side, all mkv sd content with mpg4 level 3 main compression are muxed through as AVC 480i(as reported by the n200), regardless of sub sd resolution. Level 2 and high profiles are transcoded, no idea if the n200 would support those over DLNA. Level 4 may work but haven't tried it.

Out of curiosity - by who?

1. There's a discussion on slick deals about it.
2. I read somewhere that Sony Home Media Server was a modified version of Serviio.
