problem with eyetv media

Dear all,

I would like to address a problem that has already been posted (viewtopic.php?f=11&t=4210&p=27928&hilit=eyetv#p27821) but as far as I understand has not yet been solved.

I run Serviio 0.6.2 on MAC OSX Version 10.6.8

Using EyeTV (3.5.5) I saved a few TV clips and wanted to view them on my Sony KDL-32EX725.

The problem is that some of the saved clips will play on my TV and others will not.

To provide some information to solve the problem I started ffpeg -i once with a clip that can be played (i called it video-good.mpg) and one clip that is refused to play (I called video-bad.mpg). Both clips are just plain output of EyeTV.

You can find the output here in the addendum.

Any ideas how I can solve the problem?

Best Regards
Jochem

Re: problem with eyetv media

from the output you can see there are a lot of errors in the second file's output, mostly related to the mpeg2 video stream.

Re: problem with eyetv media

Dear Petr,

thank you for the immediate answer. For me there is still one question left:

Why do ohter renderers like the EyeTV-Software itself or the VLC-player on my mac DO play BOTH files? They seem to have no problems with the failures in the file "video-bad.mpg".

Is it possible to change the settings off ffmpeg in a way so that it is also as fault-tolerant as the decoders used by EyeTV or VLC?

I think this question might become even more relevant as more users will use serviio for serving recorded TV-clips (received over the air so maybe with some failures in the stream) in their Home-Network.

(My wife needs here "CSI:Miami" daily - I have to find a solution... :D )

Thanks for any suggestions or ideas
Jochem

Re: problem with eyetv media

All good and bad files are visible on serviio library ?

Does the bad file is delivered in native format or transcoded by ffmpeg ? See detailed serviio log file.(See signature links)

Re: problem with eyetv media

Hi,

yes both files (video-good.mpg and video-bad.mpg) are visibile in the serviio-library. They are also visible in the directory on the TV-screen and can be attached via the Home Network using DLNA. Up to here everything looks normal to me.

Both files are delivered in native format without using the transcoding-option.

The user experience is as follows: The name of both files is displayed in the directory on the TV screen. Both of them have preview pictures. When clicking on the file-names for both files the spinning wheel in the upper-left-corner of the TV shows up (the Sony "please wait"-Icon). After a few seconds the spinning wheel disappaers. Up to this point everything looks normal for both files. The difference appears after this point. While the file video-good.mpg starts to play for the file video-bad.mpg the TV-screen just stays black. When I press the "Info"-button on the TV it even shows me for both files the correct total lenght of the clip. But for video-bad.mpg it does not start the video...

Last weekend I made some experiments with more captured TV-clips and I get more and more convinced that the problem is closely related to the question of "fault-tolerance" (see posting before) regarding the videostream.

I will come back with some detailed serviio log file like you asked for. This may take some days...

Up to this point: Any more suggestions to solve the problem?

Cheers Jochem

Re: problem with eyetv media

Ok, I started serviio in DEBUG mode.

Then I first tried to start the file named "video-bad.mpg" on my TV. I did not start.
Then I tried to start the file named "video-good.mpg". That worked fine.

In the attachment you will find the corresponding log-file in DEBUG mode.

Does this help to come closer to a solution for the problem?
