Newer serviio versions can't play files that 0.6.2 can...

Serviio is great, use it everyday, but this issue always stops me from upgrading from 0.6.2. I just tried 1.4.1.2, same problem.

My troubleshooting has been pretty basic. Fresh serviio install, default config, add sources, wait for scan to complete, attempt to play videos on Samsung TV: results in certain mkv videos throwing errors on the TV. I don't remember the exact error but it will be something like "invalid file format". When I turn serviio's transcoding setting off the error changes to "invalid audio format", again don't recall the exact verbiage but it's something about audio.

When I downgrade back to 0.6.2, default everything, the same file works perfectly.

It's a shame because I would like to make use of some particular features of the newest version.

I'm open to troubleshoot and debug, let me know what I can do to help.

I have issues similar to yours in the past.
I normally just replace the ffmeg binary with either
one that I build myself or a public build done by
someone else (you can search and download them...)
And the problems go away..

I'm running ubuntu server 12.04 and I would assume 1.4.1.2 and 0.6.2 would both use the installed (i.e. same) version of ffmpeg. Correct me if I'm wrong but his seems to eliminate ffmpeg as the culprit. The video uses something called 'TrueHD' for the audio track, I'm assuming this is somehow a problem since the error refers to "audio codec" (transcoding off).
