MKV Plays Corrupted (Green Screen, Digital Noise, etc.)

Hi there,

I'm about to get me a license to use Serviio with my newly adquired Samsung 55' F8000 (UN55F8000) because I've found that Serviio plays most of the files in it.

However, I've stumbled upon a Depeche Mode Concert (MKV) that plays corrupted. It starts playing on the client, but forwards randomly, with digital noise, green screens, freezes, etc.

This is the ffmpeg -i output:

  Code:
Input #0, matroska, webm, from 'Depeche Mode Tour of the Universe - Live in Barce
lona 1080p DTS.mkv':
  Metadata:
    encoder         : libebml v0.7.9 + libmatroska v0.8.1

    Metadata:

    Stream #0:1(eng): Audio: dts (DTS), 48000 Hz, 5.1(side), fltp, 768 kb/s (def

And this is the MediaInfo output:

After a while, it crashes:

Would you know what the problem might be?

Thanks

EDIT: by the way, sound also skips and make weird noises

Re: MKV Plays Corrupted (Green Screen, Digital Noise, etc.)

Does the MKV play from a USB stick?

Re: MKV Plays Corrupted (Green Screen, Digital Noise, etc.)

Thanks probe! Nice question! :)

I just tried and it does the same while playing from a USB stick; the same error appears. The corruption doesn't show on players such as VLC on the computer or Showtime in the PS3.

Any ideas on how I could fix the file or what might the problem be?

Thanks

Re: MKV Plays Corrupted (Green Screen, Digital Noise, etc.)

So normally Samsung doesn't need transcoding, so the file is delivered natively. It's then up to the TV to decode it, which in this case apparently fails. You could reencode it using one of the many encoding tools, to mp4 or mkv again.

It's also possible that the profile for h264 is just too high, I think mkvmerge will allow you to reduce the profile, I certainly remember doing something similar with files on my PS3 years ago.
