Category vs Content Only vs Folder

Maybe this is a dumb question, but here goes

Why doesn't Content Only present only content?

For example if I want to browse by Actor, with presentation mode "Display Category", I have to select the folder for the Actor's first name, and then a list of actors beginning with that name comes up. I expected with presentation mode "Display Content Only" that when I browsed by Actor, I would get a list of actors, sorted alphabetically, but instead I get folders called A [Actors], B [Actors] and so on.

Is this a limitation / feature of serviio or the dlna standard, or something else?

Re: Category vs Content Only vs Folder

Content Only means to display only content of the original category (Artists in this case). So originally you have:

Audio -> Artists -> First initial -> List of names -> List of songs

with Content Only for artists you have

Audio -> First Initial -> List of names -> List of songs

That's how it's designed in Serviio. Basically just flattening the main category.

Thanks for the explanation.

Do you have plans to makes it even simpler, like

Audio > Artist > List of names > List of songs
Video > Actor > List of names > List of films?

or it that not possible?

That would mean complete configuration of the tree and it's not planned. Some people want deeper hierarchy, some want flatter. The Initial character is there for convenience especially for large libraries so that you don't have to skip 200 entires beginning with A to get to B.

Re: Category vs Content Only vs Folder

Hi,

Probably I missed something, but I can not achieve the folder structure you mentioned.

with Content Only for artists you have

Audio -> First Initial -> List of names -> List of songs

With this I'm getting a structure:

Audio -> First Initial -> List of names (Atrists) -> List of albums -> List of songs

How can I list ALL the songs of an artist (without have to chose an album)?
Any advice would be appreciated.

PS: I just can't say loud enough: Thank you very much for this wonderful piece of software!!!!
