Serviio file monitoring

I'm just wondering how Serviio monitors changes to folders and files. Is this a process of active polling, thereby causing the disk(s) to spin up intermittently, or a passive process which registers that there has been activity in one of the shared folders?

It is capable of either polling or using the native file system functionality to monitor for changes. Default is to use the native system, but if you are having problems with files being detected you can enable the poller on each shared location.

I have no problems with file detection, or indeed anything else. However, I'm interested to know if Serviio's default detection method is an active one and causes the drives to spin up at regular intervals, or a passive method which "leaves the drives in peace" so to speak. If it relies on active detection and constantly activates the drives, I would obviously prefer to use the native system, or turn automatic updating off altogether, in order to reduce wear and tear.

Yep, native is the default, so you should be fine.

In other words, the native method is one of passive monitoring which will not spin up the drives? If so, excellent.
