Unwanted changes since clean install of Windows 7

Hi, hoping you can help. I've tried to find the answer, only been able to find the question (on another website) with no answer.
I've recently done a clean install of Windows 7 and since then, Serviio has not been how it was before. Before, on both tvs, it would show up as a 'stand-alone' via source. Now, on one tv, it's showing up as DNLA and on the other as ALLSHARE, and it's not working as well as before. I've just installed Java, updated Kaspersky and the router with the applicable ports...any idea what I've missed? This is what I got from my log.

Re: Unwanted changes since clean install of Windows 7

I also recently did a clean install on Windows 7, and didn't encounter this problem. Could you zip your complete log up and post it here as an attachment? There's some startup lines in the log that I'd like to compare to mine to see if something jumps out. It would be fine to remove any part of it after it loads the profiles, as Serviio is fully up and running by then and I don't need to see it scanning your locations or any file titles.

Close, but not quite. Yes, this is the log, but I would like to see the section before the profiles are loaded. That goes from initial load through the profile additions, which as included here. Basically, look at what you provided here, and give me everything before what you have as the last line, which says "Starting automatic library scan."

I must be missing something, because I think that was from the start of that log. Here is another log, hope that helps?

Re: Unwanted changes since clean install of Windows 7

That is still not the beginning section of the log. I see you have debug enabled, which makes the logs extremely large. By default the log file is cut off at 500 KBs and a new log file is started. You likely see a bunch of files, but only one ends in .log. The rest have a number at the end. One of those was the opening log.

Stop the Serviio service, delete all the files in the Log folder, then restart the service, wait about 60 seconds, then stop the service again. That should keep the file small enough that everything is there. Or you can go to the config folder and edit the log config file to allow larger files. I'm not at home right now, so I can't quote exactly where to edit that file. Don't change anything if you're unsure what to edit.

Thank you for your patience, I appreciate it :D Now I know I've been doing the logs wrong, still not sure if I have what you're looking for, but I've added 2 more.

Still not seeing the initial load. Here's a copy of a debug log I did a few months ago. This shows the lines I'm looking for:

Wow, I have not come across anything like that on my logs (I wonder why not?). I'll give it another go and see if I can find that sort of info. Thanks.

Re: Unwanted changes since clean install of Windows 7

I wonder if it has anything to do with this "Haven't found any suitable local IP address, will try again 9 times"? If it does, I'm not sure how to fix it :?

That's an interesting line. While your local IP seems to be identified, I've never seen that before. I hope Zip sees this and can comment. Do you have either a static IP or reserved IP address on the Serviio computer? If not, it's certainly something to consider. Then go to the Status page on the console, and it the bottom change the Network Settings from Auto to the assigned IP address.

That's normal. You often see something similar after your PC awakens from sleep. It just means that Serviio is ready before your NIC has woken up/established link. Its only an issue if you don't get a subsequent "Updated bound IP address of Device with UUID: xxx, bound address: xxx" message.

Can't really help with your problem. I haven't either device but I thought it was the norm for DLNA servers to appear under the "Allshare" menu of Samsung TV's???

In any case I think which menu the Serviio server appears under on your TV would a function of the TV. It's not something Serviio can control. As to why it changed, the only thing I can think of is (a) your devices got a firmware update (both devices - unlikely); or (b) Windows itself was advertising Serviio as shared appliance (do you recall whether Serviio used to appear on both the Sources and the Allshare menus?) that was then being picked up by your renderers.

On a hunch, try :

  • under Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Devices and Printers double click your device (assuming it is on and appears as a device) and when prompted enable Media Streaming and then allow access to devices. If neither device appears, select a device with a big green play triangle on it (if there is one).
  • if that doesnt work, enable streaming from Windows Media Player (turn it into a Media Server) and see where that shows up on your devices (and if it fixes the issue).

Re: Unwanted changes since clean install of Windows 7

At least on my Samsung TVs (have a couple) Serviio appears as a separate selectable icon under the media devices. If Windows Sharing is enabled, the same computer appears again with a different icon, and doesn't have the same name that Serviio gives itself. Same on my older Panasonic, and all my other streaming devices (Smart TVs and BD players). The only time I think I've ever seen anything labeled as AllShare was when I tried the Samsung software on my computer. Didn't care for it at all so removed it.

Strangely enough, Serviio on my newer Samsung TV has changed back from AllShare to Network without me even doing anything.

It's gone back to AllShare, I've since worked out, that if I leave it on the generic profile, it will stay as Network instead of AllShare (on the newer tv).

Man, who knows what Samsung has done. On my set, it's just listed as another media source. Oh well...
