Problem with mkv file

Hello,

I'm using Serviio on Debian 10 server.
Ffmpeg 3.2.4
Java :
java version "1.8.0_201"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.8.0_201-b09)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 25.201-b09, mixed mode)

I watch videos on Samsung TV ( UE46ES7000 ) with dlna client from source, with RJ45 wire.
The Tv profile in serviio console is configured with Samsung TV / player (E/F-series), with default many problems and files not read.

For most of files no problem.
But for MKV files, files can be read, but I can't move forward or backward. The duration of the file is still 7:08:40.
It's a problem cause if a stop reading I can't go where I stopped.

I put here information for files :

Files 1 :

Do you have the same problem ? Or have an idea to fix it ?

Thanks.

Re: Problem with mkv file

Transcoded files cannot be fast forwarded, rewound or resumed (trick play), except for very specific players. That example file you listed is H.265/HEVC, which your TV does not support so requires transcoding. It has nothing to do with it being an MKV file. It's the codec that it contains that is the issue. Your audio codec is AAC 5.1, which may or may not also be an issue for the TV. I can't say for sure. Even if your TV could play the video but require audio transcoding, you'd still be unable to use trick play. The second file you posted info about uses AC3 (Dolby Digital), so your TV should support that. But again, it's H.265 video, which your TV doesn't support.

You could try the Roku TV (non-4K) profile and see if that works and offers trick play. It uses HLS transcoding, which on some devices allows trick play.

Re: Problem with mkv file

Hello,

Thanks for the answer.
Now I understand. If codec format is known file is read.
If format is unknown, file is transcoded during watching, and this is why we can't move backward/forward.

I tested the other profile, it's not working.
The was bought in 2012 ... normal x265 not know.

I have to convert files to x264 format.
i'm testing it.

thanks.

Re: Problem with mkv file

I can't say for certain that your TV supports H.264, but it might. The one certainty would be MPEG-2. The MKV container can be used for practically any codec. That's why it's so popular. :)

Re: Problem with mkv file

It supports 264, tested and validated.

But the most important : Now I understand.
