Youtube video transcode off but still on?

Hello serviio users,

I think I found one of the best dnla server for my small nas(ds212j). I disabled trancoding because my nas it tottally unpower for such things. Hd files plays very well no transcoding needed because I have a wdtv live. Today I checked out the impressive plugin feature. I checked out the youtube plugin. It took some time to setup but now I can receive the rss feeds vid dnla on my wdtv. But playback does not work properly. As I mentioned I have disabled transcoding ( via console) if I start a video, my nas starts a transcoding process for this video. Does it belongs to the youtube plugin? Should every youtube video needs to be transcoded?

Depends what quality you have set in the console. Medium will give you an AVC/AAC.flv file that might play, and if you change the '4' in line 78 of the groovy to a '6' you will get an AVC/AAC.mp4 file that should play. Low will always need transcoding. The plugin should really let you choose the YT format that you prefer rather than limiting the choices to H/M/L.

I changed the value from four to six and set the quallity to medium via console but serviio still wants to transcode. I have a 3party firmware on my wdtv and which have a youtube app built in. I don't want to use it because it is horrible to navigate without a keyboard, but I plays videos on yt without any probelms. I have attached my debuglog for troubleshooting.

Online will always (unless it's mpegts) be transcoded, or at least remuxed, no matter what your settings. In your case the video is probably not H264 (VP8 possibly?), therefore it's transcoding it.

I assume you WD has enough power to remux the YT files to TS. The change to 6 will provide an AVC/AAC stream file that I also assume your TV can play without having to also transcode to MPEG2video which is what takes the power, but it still has to remux those streams from an MP4 container into an mpeg-ts container. Your log dump does not show the full ffmpeg command so the values showing the formats and the transcoding that is being done are missing so I cant verify what is actually happeniing.
