Not Transcoding

Hello, my servioo isn't transcoding at all, i've checked the box under the delivery-->transcoding tab that asks me to do so, mp4 and mkv files play well since my LG smart TV can play them natively but when i try to play hi10 encoded mkv videos, nothing happens and the videos keep loading forever. After searching the forums i saw something called 'transcoding profiles', but i cannot find such an option on my servioo console, i'm using 1.5, appreciate any help.

EDIT: I've tried setting the profile of my TV to both LG TV/Player and Generic DLNA device, but neither works.

Both the Generic DLNA Profile and the default LG TV/Player profile do not include transcoding - you have picked the only two that don't . The transcode block in the LG is commented out by default.

Try editing profiles.xml ( in your serviio/config folder) and in the LG profile add:

just above the line that reads <HardSubsTranscoding>. Restart your PC after saving the file. I recommend Notepad++ to edit xml files, but any text editor will do.

Some LG's don't support transcoding well. See how you go.

Thank you so much, it is now transcoding, however i don't have subs, i've enabled all the boxes in the subtitles tab under presentation and set 'Always' for burned in subs but still no luck. The subs are in ass.

I have already searched but i cannot find a conclusive solution, as i've posted earlier, i've enabled all the checkboxes under subs, if i do this subs will appear but only for non- hi 10 videos but hi10 videos do not work, i've tried using mkvmerge to remux the subtitle track using utf-8 encoding but still no luck, i did see a thread about converting the subs to srt but i'm talking about over 200 files here which makes it impossible, if there's another alternative, pls help

Where are the subtitles located (external, in the mkv) and if external, what is the file name.

I am god awful terrible with cmd, so i hope this is what you were asking for as it didn't even come out as it did in the page you linked. I don't think the subs have a specified language, should i edit it using mkvmerge and try again.

yes, there is no language code. Using the tool you should be able to mark the track with a language code, which you then enter to the console.

One last tiny miniscule issue, is there a way to get seeking capabilities on my TV, at this time any video format i play doesn't allow me to rewind or forward, all i can do is pause.

Most playback devices won't FF or rewind a transcoded file. I've had no luck with any of my players when transcoding. If the file will play without transcoding, you show have those functions. Fortunately I can watch without transcoding with all my players except the Roku and some files on my Panasonic.

Sorry to be keep on complaining but i've run into another issue, what i've been doing before was simply playing the first minute or two of a video and reporting my observations, today however is the first time that i had enough free time to actually watch a complete video. I tried 3 videos, a 1080, 720 and 480p vid. The 480p played perfectly without issues from beginning to end. The 720p vid plays perfectly however once it reaches the 5-7 minute mark, the video would abruptly stop, i also tried waiting for the transcoding process to finish but had the same results, the vid does always go further with each playback but it's nothing more than a minute at best. 1080p videos are choppy when playing, i expected this since my PC is quite old, even if i allow it to buffer a bit (which it usually plays smoothly a while after this), it still dies at around 4-5 mins at best, anyway to solve this, i wasn't expecting to be able to play 1080p, but i thought i could at least do 720p, thanks.

Zee, what hardware are you using for your Serviio PC? Is sounds like it just can't keep up with even 720p transcoding.

Also, how are you networked between the server and TV: wireless or wired? Sometimes a Wi-Fi connection just can't hack it. I tried my Roku on wireless for a spell, and it was constantly buffering everything HD, and even occasionally SD video. Switched back to wired and it all went away.

I noticed in the code for transoding that i was using 384-bps, will lowering it help a bit. I am using a wired connection.

Well, I don't think changing the transcoding bitrate will improve things any. I would guess that its the transcoding process itself that takes the processing power, and the target bitrate impacts the total workload very little. Of course, I could be wrong!

But still, that isn't terrible hardware. My test server isn't a whole lot better than that. Faster, but still only dual core and 4 gig of ram. Video card has no impact on Serviio performance. I don't have any 720p videos, only SD and 1080p. I'll let someone else jump in here and perhaps offer some assistance with tweaking the profile. You also might provide an FFMPEG information result for one of the 1080p files. Just a hunch, but it may be related to your videos being encoded at such a high setting. Could end up being an FFMPEG issue. Might be useful to install the latest version just to try it.
