Xperia Tablet S - Native media app play-back

My Xperia Tablet S works fine with Skifta and MX Player, but this is a little 'clunky' and I'd love to be able to play everything in the native Sony media player.

The device name is SGPT121 and the DLNA certification can be found here: http://certification.dlna.org/certs/REG23138846.pdf

According to the certification, the formats supported are:

Image: JPEG_LRG / JPEG_MED / JPEG_SM / PNG_LRG

Audio: AAC_ADTS_320 / AAC_ISO_320 / MP3

Video: AVC_MP4_BL_CIF15_AAC_520

I'd really like to try and develop a profile for the Tablet S but I'm completely new to this and it's years since I've done any kind of coding. I couldn't find "AVC_MP4_BL_CIF15_AAC_520" defined in the MediaFormatProfiles at the top of the profiles.xml - does it need to be defined? Where should I start?

Any help or pointers would be very much appreciated.

Could you provide information about format supported by your device ?

Serviio does not support transcoding video to h264, only to mpeg2video. So we have to know the proper format supported by both Serviio and Xperia.

The tablet doesnt appear on Intel UNPnP (neither does my Xperia phone - not sure why?), I had to pull the format details from the DLNA certificationn.

Could you clarify what you mean by the 'proper format' '?

For example : MPEG_TS_SD_EU
If both Serviio/Xperia support this format, we can create a profile that transcode all media to mpegts/mpeg2video/ac3 stream.
Because AVC_MP4_BL_CIF15_AAC_520 is not a target format supported by serviio/ffmpeg transcoding.

Re: Xperia Tablet S - Native media app play-back

Would it be worth downloading the sample videos and loading them on to the tablet to see if any will play?

<EDIT>

I have masses of videos in loads of different formats, some over 10 years old. I've got some WMV, MKV and MP4 files to play locally and a random MPEG that plays with out sound. Other MKVs play but with no sound.

Not sure if this helps, but the following file will play locally and will stream via Serviio (with the Generic DLNA profile) using the Sony video player (it also works on my Xperia mobile):

The caption that the video conveniently displays when you pause playback indicates that the stream is using: AVC_MP4_MP_SD_AAC_MULT5

Re: Xperia Tablet S - Native media app play-back

This file will play over the network using a file browser to access the file directly but will not stream, presumably because Serviio transcodes it to a format that can't play:
