Connection Refused Error

Anytime I attempt to access the boards here on my home inernet connection I constantly get a Connection_refused error. If I turn off wifi on my phone I can connect no problem or if I am at the office (obviously a different connection) I have no issue.

Any thoughts on what could be causing my connection to be refused?

Re: Connection Refused Error

One possibility is that the IP address your ISP has assigned to you (most home users IP address changes often) has been identified at one time being used by spammers or other miscreants. It might be refused at the other end because of that.

A server I installed at my daughter's house was hacked and someone was using it for bad purposes. We only discovered it because their ISP notified them of excessive bandwidth usage. Once we knew that, I found it pretty quickly and shut them down.

The other issue might be something in your computer is just not playing nicely. Sometimes a reboot will clear things up. You also might try a different browser, such as Chrome or Firefox.

Re: Connection Refused Error

Hmmm the high bandwidth I would believe, I have a home FTP set-up and am constantly sending/receiving files to and from it. Also, someone is ALWAYS streaming Netflix at my house which again would be a huge bandwidth hog.

Interesting that just the serviio boards are not happy with my IP but no other site has an issue. Maybe my IP was put on a "Do Not Want" list, haha.

Re: Connection Refused Error

Yes a board can ban particular ip addresses, but it's not commonly done - moderation is usually done differently.

This board has only two banned addresses so you would have to be unlucky! It's not likely to be the issue, but if you want, PM me or zip with your address and we can look further into it ( or cycle your router, get a different IP address and recheck. If it's still happening, it's not the cause).

Re: Connection Refused Error

I looked at the address you provided by PM and its not on the banned list, so that isn't the issue. Can you try tethering your PC to your phone (ensuring wifi is off on the phone, and all other networking is off on the PC). If connection is still refused this would point to an issue with the PC (firewall?), if it is allowed, it would point to your router or service provider.
