Files with Dolby True HD are not shown to players

Hi,

I am using an OPPO 103 for playback and also a Medi8er 600X3D. both Showing the same effect.

I have a bunch of Video files (Trailers) which work fine except the ones with Audio in DolbyTrueHD (5.1 or 7.1 doesn't matter)
I cannot see these Videos on any of these Players. (generally the Players both DO Support these media files, I can Play them fine via USB or with the Media Server build in in Windows Server 2012R2.
ONly Serviio is simply hiding them form my devices.
In the web view I was able to see them.

I also tried all build in profiles which doesn't make any difference on these files.

So how can I make Serviio present these files to my devices?

TrueHD is not supported by DLNA really, so you'll have to transcode the audio to ac3 in your profile, in order for Serviio to serve them.

Birdie, I have found that MKV files with TrueHD will play. Zip told me something about MKV not really being a supported DLNA container either, so he just sends it through. If I had a M2TS TrueHD file, then the same problem you had: didn't even appear in the list. I'm sure your Oppo will support MKV natively, so you should be able to play them with superb quality. I know my Blu-Ray rips look just fine, and my AV receiver shows TrueHD in the display, so the bitstream is making it though.

The only issue (at least with my players) is that a MKV file with embedded captions will not display them. The player recognizes that there are caption tracks, and they can be selected, but they never appear on screen. I'm not referring to captions that are burned into the video. They appear no problem. The same file in M2TS format will show the captions. Zip says (again) something about the way MKV files are being streamed, since the standard hasn't supported MKV until recently.

Wouldn't it be expected that serviio wouldn't Show them anywhere then?

Any Suggestion for a tool (free?) to convert m2ts with DolbyTrueHD to an MKV with DolbyTrueHD?

If you have the Blu-Ray disc, use MakeMKV to rip it directly into an MKV container. You can choose which audio tracks and captions to be copied as well. By default, it does not select HD audio, so you have to check it. MakeMKV is extremely fast, usually doing a 2+ hour movie in under 30 minutes.

If you just want to convert the files you already have, Handbrake works well. Just a lot slower.

Download mkvtoolnix. You can remux the m2ts stream into an mkv.

Yep, I knew that. Just wanted to mention the performance difference.

I have the opposite problem, where my oppo-93 supports trueHD, but only in m2ts format. However, like the OP, serviio does not actually provide those files to my player like my Synology did.
Is there a suggested workaround in which I can keep the trueHD track?
Remux my m2ts/trueHD files off-line into mkv container, and then configure a serviio profile to remux this back to m2ts when serving the oppo??

TrueHD is not a supported DLNA codec (in the standard), so m2ts files with it will not be served. You could set up transcoding these files to AC3 in Serviio, or manually remux them to MKV (which Serviio server no matter what codecs are used).

Zip, I understand the standard does not support them, but I have no difficulty with viewing and playing either MKV or M2TS files with TrueHD (as well as DTS Master Audio). I have all 6 Star Wars in either MKV or M2TS format with HD audio, as well as the first 6 Star Trek movies. This was true for my Sony players as well as my current Samsung player. The problem with the Samsung is that it downconverts the audio, even though I have it set for bitstream passthrough. With the Sony players, I could see captions on the M2TS files, but not MKV. My guess is the player sees the M2TS file as if it were being played from a disc.

I'm going to buy a new Sony BDP-S5500 today, so I'll see if the HD audio still passes through like it did with my older SMP-N200 and BDP-S3100 players.
