1.6 console

After installing 1.6 I cant get access to console - http://my synology ip:23423/console - I got "Not Found"

Same on Mac OS X ElCapitan: console is nowhere to be found after install.
Forced re-install with Pacifist -> console app is then 1.5.2

There are a number of problems with the new console in the on-line library section, that I documented in the beta, that are regressions from the old console and remain unaddressed in the 1.6 release.

In particular, the list of on-line items is poorly managed when there are more than 15 entries (ie: more than one page). Some examples are: the lack of list scrolling when one attempts to relocate entries (either by dragging or using the ^v icons) to before or after those on the active page; need to page down to the last page before one can add an item; and the return of the list to the third line from the top of the first page when one edits an item on a lower page or after adding an item.

Further, its use on portable devices is problematic. First the far left draghandle icon is difficult to activate because its target area on the screen is too small. Being slightly off selects the whole line which is pointless because there are no whole line activities. Secondly the up/down move icons (which only display in landscape mode) are also too small and too closely spaced to be correctly targeted with a touch.

On Chrome, the drag handle works with difficulty but only if touched and slid toward 8PM. Once selected a line can only be moved to the top of the current page, an one must then scroll the screen down and attempt to select the drag handle and repeat the process. Once page one is reached the line cannot be moved to the top, only to entry 3.

On Dolphin, (the only android browser that supports flash for full Mediabrowser support), the drag handles do not select at all.

On IPAD, the drag handles select, but when items are dragged and released, they do not move to the new location.

All this restricts the management of on-line sources to the PC, negating the value of a web-based solution.

I've seen something like that happen before. Had to run the 1.6 installer twice for the Console app to appear under Applications. Try that, if it's this I'll investigate further.

I think you are an exception, having long lists of online sources. Some of the issues may still be addressed in future versions, but I'm not in a business of releasing 100% perfect software - there would be no Serviio if I was.

Further, its use on portable devices is problematic.

There is always ServiiDroid, which will be obviously working better with touch as a native app.

I made it bigger after the last RC. Still, I don't expect mobile users to do big library re-shuffle, I'd be always faster with a mouse.

True, and I said it above. I'd expect online sources super-users to use the desktop anyway.

No, but you can close port 23423 in your firewall so no one from outside your PC can access it.

I was not complaining, just reporting my findings to date in what looks like a thread re the 1.6 console.
Better you remove the drag and arrow icons and use big up down boxes like the edit box than leave it like it is.

The version of console must be the same as the version of Serviio server on your Synology (1.5.2?)

You can get the old version of console by changing the URL of the download version (eg. change "http://download.serviio.org/releases/serviio-1.6-win-setup.exe" to "http://download.serviio.org/releases/serviio-1.5.2-win-setup.exe") or from http://www.videohelp.com/software/Servi ... s#download

Note that when version 1.6 is released for the Synology (or any other NAS) you won't need to download console app on your PC anymore - you will be able to access the console from any web browser on your local network by using http://NAS_IP_Address:23423/console.

It doesn't work like that anymore. The console is not a separate process anymore, rather it's just a web application running on the server. So no need to install anything on your PC since 1.6.

There is no console 1.5.2 in the pkg. there is Serviio-Console app, but that is just an executable wrapper around the webpage connecting to the local server.

ok, then there might be an issue like in previous versions.
Here System's "get info" reports version 1.5.2, although I intalled from Serviio-1.6.pkg with Pacifist.

When I launch the app, it fails "The application “Serviio-Console.app” can’t be opened." (although I checked server is launched and console URL opens fine in browser).
Mac OS console log says:

Indeed, looking at the app bundle there is no such file (only Electron is there).
So Launch Services tries to launch what it remembers from previous version...and therefore fails.
Seems similar to the plist-or-sth "sync" issue previous versions suffered from.
Hope it helps.

Will try to wipe it out, and see if installer accepts to install it after some reboots & cleanups.

For example, although developers are encouraged to package their applications so that they can be installed by simply dragging them onto the user’s disk, some applications may require more elaborate custom installer software. In such cases, the installer should call one of the Launch Services registration functions LSRegisterFSRef or LSRegisterURL to register the application explicitly.

The registration functions take a Boolean parameter, inUpdate, which controls the function’s behavior when the application being registered already exists in the Launch Services database. If this parameter is true, Launch Services unconditionally reregisters the application, replacing any previous information that may already exist for it in the database; if the parameter is false, the application is reregistered only if its current modification time is more recent than that recorded in the database.

After making any significant change in an application’s Launch Services–related information, you should either reregister the application explicitly, by calling LSRegisterFSRef or LSRegisterURL with inUpdate set to true, or update the modification time of the application to ensure that it will be updated by the automatic registration utilities described above.

I noted (not sure it is important since 10.6) that there is no creator set for the app either.
