Unable to open 'Movies' folder

Hi,

I had version 1.4 installed and had a problem when opening the 'Movies' dynamic folder where my Samsung TV would say "Failed to access the device. Please check the device and retry", upon hitting "OK" there would be no folders displayed in 'Videos' at all so I would then have to go down to "Photos" and back up to "Videos" and then open 'Movies' again and it would work. So, first open wouldn't work, second try would always work.

After upgrading to Serviio 1.6 I now am unable to open 'Movies' at all, constantly getting the message above.

Please help!

My only comment is that Samsung hasn't done a particularly good job with their DLNA client. On my JU7100, it often says it can't play a file, and then I select it again and it plays fine. It doesn't matter if the TV is connected via wireless or wired. I get the "Check network connection" error often, and starts right up after selecting the file again.

I have my doubts there's a Serviio issue, and that it's more likely to be something with the Samsung. That's no help, I understand. My wife won't even use the TV interface anymore, preferring to use our Sony BD player instead because it has no such issues.

I agree that Samsung has not provided a very good client, however the only change I made was upgrade Serviio version and I now can no longer display Movies at all. This tells me that something can be done within Serviio to improve the situation - at the extreme that is going back to version 1.4, however I would prefer not to have to do that.

Also, after upgrade I am getting this repeatedly in the log file and notice that some TV Shows are not being displayed at all any more:

Humm, that error indicates a problem connecting to the Internet for some reason. I don't have that in my log, or at least not the last time I looked at it :lol:

There's always the chance the problem is at the other end (thetvdb.com), although I would expect to see more postings here about it.

Almost sounds like something in the Serviio install failed when you upgraded. Sometimes they just hiccup for an unknown reason and something doesn't work right. If you have the time, I would suggest a complete uninstall (including removing/renaming the install folder) and try to install again. I've never had an issue doing a in place upgrade, but it does happen occasionally.

I can get to the site from IE on the box running Serviio, it displays a custom error code page '404'. The main root URL displays correctly also.

I suggest if you copy paste that URL it will 404 for you also as it does from any device I try, even another internet connection and different computer.

Another problem is that it doesn't appear to be scanning new content automatically, even though the box is ticked. When I force a scan it finds new stuff fine however.

I will attempt a full uninstall and reinstall. I assume that will also clear the database of shows and start fresh which can only be a good thing I guess.

I just used Chrome and IE 11 to go to thetvdb.com, and it returned with no problems. So if you can't reach it with your normal browser, you absolutely have Internet issues. I don't know if there are any geographical restrictions on that web site, but I doubt Zip would have used a site that wasn't accessible.

You appear to have misunderstood what I said, I can also get to the root website without issue. It's the full url from the log file which was returning a 404, and it's a custom error message which means it was contacting the web server without issue and collecting a page not found message. This information clearly represents that my box can get to the web server fine, the web server is just not able to find the direct page requested. It was just strange that I would get so many 404 codes in Serviio log, why would Serviio be requesting pages which don't exist?

I have just uninstalled Serviio and reinstalled from scratch as suggested, it is now scanning my media which will take a while because I have alot :). I will let you know if any issues remain after this.

The 404 is Ok, Serviio tries to get the dvd metadata for a series, and it might not be available. It then fall back to another URL. And in 1.6.1 it also falls back to themoviedb.org if all else fails.

Re: the Movies folder returning error - post the log please, there is probably some exception happening there.

Log file attached.

I just changed config to DEBUG as instructed in your signature. You can see at the end of the log the restart occurred after changing config, I then opened up a folder which caused the error message, however it appears nothing is logged.

After re-installation, this error message is now coming up on some very select TV Shows season folders, however other seasons within the same show open without issue. The problem appears to have spread from Movies to other folders, but only a few... very strange.

THis is not a Detailed log.. there are not DEBUG lines in there. Did you restart the service / PC after you made the change in the config?

Ah, sorry, it must have changed the setting back after upgrading to 1.6.1.

However after uninstalling and installing 1.6.1 the problem appears to have been resolved, I no longer get the failed message on any folders.

I would like to add my experience to this thread.

For a long time now, when I try to access video files in a folder, I receive the error message "Request cannot be completed. MEDIA PLAY will return to the main screen." I am then thrown back to the main screen. Usually, but no always, I will get access the second time that I try to access video files in that particular folder. This is still happening now, even though 1.6.1 is now installed.

My theory is that this has something to do with the number of video files that are sitting in the folder. My Samsung 46C TV (2010) will display 9 or 10 files on a single page. However, with more videos, then there are more pages. The more videos in the folder, the greater the chance of getting this error message. I have worked out a temporary fix by limiting the number of videos in a folder. This error almost never comes up when the folder has less than 9 video files in it.

My theory is that this is a Serviio issue but I guess anything is possible. Even though the original complaint may be solved, would Serviio like to investigate this issue further with me??

Hello and thanks for the reply. Editing XML is certainly not my thing since I've never done it before. But here is what the log file has yielded. After successfully browsing to folders, I finally got this error message when I tried to open a folder containing 18 video files in it. I was thrown back to the opening screen. Then the second time I navigated to this folder, it opened without a problem. I hope that I've done this correctly and that it yields the information that you're looking for. And I'm naturally hopeful for a solution because this is a great product!
