Serviio loading slow for TV vs. Plex

Hello,

I am hoping someone can help me. I have the paid subscription and latest updates of Serviio running on my 2012 Server with 4 quad core processors and 64GB of Ram Raid 5 with 10TB of space.. Yet, videos load sooooo slow onto my Roku 2 devices then alot of times they will stop and load a few mins between.. Yet, I can use Plex on the same server and videos are loading and playing within a second or less and running great. So, I know it is not the hardware.. It is clearly an issue between Roku and serviio. In case it is asked, I use the roku media player for both Serviio and Plex. Is there any idea on why this issue is happening?

Thanks

Which version of Roku are you using? I also use the Roku Media Player to play the movies. I have a Roku 2 XS and a Roku 4. Neither will load the video particularly fast, but that is due to programming decisions by Roku. I have had numerous conversations with Roku in the forums about it. They buffer a certain amount of the video before playback begins, regardless of the video type or if it's a local or remote file.

Make sure you are using the Roku profile in the Serviio console. Also, what sort of videos are you trying to play?

As I said, Roku Media Player has different parameters for playback than the Plex app. That alone may be making the difference in load speeds between the two. Also, remember that the Roku 2 is no where near as powerful as later units. I really see huge difference between my 2 XS and my 4.

It's a Roku 2720X Software version 7.1

Yes, I have the Roku profile selected for that device.. They are majority mp4 files.. The thing is I NOT using the Plex app to run my video streams for Plex. I am using The roku media player for both Plex and Serviio.. So I guess that is where I am failing to see why this would be Roku's problem and not Serviio.. Both Serviio and Plex using the same server for playback, both streaming to the same device.. Yet, Plex can play back very well, while Serviio there is loooong load times and cut outs and pausing..

Can you post a detailed log of playing a problematic file?

Here you are! I also took a short video with my phone so you get an idea of what is going on if you wanted to see that as well.

Thanks,

It's transcoded, using h264. So I'm not sure why it's transacoded (didn't check the profile, might be due to high level) and also your CPU might not be srong enough for transcoding to h264 in real-time.

Try to disable transcoding in the console and play the file again.

Re: Serviio loading slow for TV vs. Plex

I was unsure which Roku model is the 2720X, so I looked it up. Yours is newer than mine, although still called a Roku 2. The Roku will play MP4 and MKV H.264 without transcoding, but as Zip mentioned it might be above L4.1. However, based on the limited view of your media information, it doesn't look like it. My 2 XS will support up to about a 12 kbps stream, and it looks like that file is well below that. Yours should do that or better. It also supports AAC audio, so there should be no reason for the file to be transcoded. That of course is slowing down your load time, but my earlier comment about the RMP buffering an excessive amount still applies.

Not sure why transcoding is being triggered, unless perhaps you have burned in captions enabled on the Serviio console. Do as Zip suggests and disable transcoding and try again.

Thank you! That did it!

My load time went down to about 8 seconds and the videos FF, RW, Play with no issues now.

I don't recall ever enabling that option. However, if it does not enable by default, then I must have at some point.

I appreciate you clearing up that headache.. I can now uninstall Plex.
