Can't connect to Serviio server within wifi network

Just moved to a new house using ATT and I have Serviio working interally and the app works on my phone and tablet when I'm outside my home wifi network but when the devices are connected to the internal wifi network, I cannot detect the server, can't connect to it using Serviigo or mediabrowser through the internet using the ip address or localhost. No idea why it won't work within the wifi network, I always thought that would be the easy part to make work. Any idea why this would be happening?
Re: Can't connect to Serviio server within wifi network
Localhost will only work on the computer running Serviio.
Assuming the Serviio computer and all other devices are connected via Wi-Fi (no Ethernet cabling involved), your wireless access may be configured to block wireless devices from seeing others on the network. This is a security feature to protect your network from guest users, but would completely block access to Serviio. So you need to check your wireless settings. Exactly how is your network configured? Are you using your router for wireless access as well, or running a separate wireless access point somewhere else on your network?
Also ensure that multicasts are not blocked via your wireless access point/router. That's how Serviio advertises itself to the network.

Re: Can't connect to Serviio server within wifi network
Thanks for the response. I am using AT&T Uverse, everything is controlled through one central router. I have access to the router settings but I'm really not sure I know what wireless settings to look at or what might be blocking. Is there a specific setting I can look for? I don't have a ton of experience with wireless settings.
Re: Can't connect to Serviio server within wifi network
I'm not familiar at all with the U-Verse router. I would look for any settings that talk about blocking wireless devices from seeing other wireless devices. Look for guest settings, as routers that offer a guest wireless connection usually block access by default. If there is a guest network, make sure you aren't using it for your desired devices.
Is the Serviio computer also wireless, or is it connected to the router with Ethernet? If it's wired, that eliminates one potential roadblock.
I tried to find some online manuals for a U-Verse router, but wasn't successful. Can't help guide you into the settings.

Re: Can't connect to Serviio server within wifi network
When on your internal network, what IP address are you using - you may not be able to use your external address - you will need to use the internal address for the Serviio server, which is generally in the form 192.168.x.x or 10.x.x.x or 172.x.x.x. Note that whether you can use your external address from internally depends on your router and/or your ISP.
