Not sure at 100%, but PMS burn the subtitles into video stream, while Serviio delivers the subtitles file in ressource#2 going with stream ressource#1.
Check PMS trace.

Convert your subtitles to ISO-8859-2 and use latin2 setting in your Panasonic TV, should work. Viera TV's don't support win charsets.

Check this anyway viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1583&view=previous

Re: Panasonic Viera and Serviio

I converted my subtitles to ISO-8859-2 - did not help.
Subtitles are not offered as a resource by serviio. I checked it by AV Media Controler(only video and picture resources available). Also XBMC wrote Subtitles: NO.
I checked the log file, subtitles were found in my folder.
Also parsing of my photos stopped after second folder(I have about 30 folders)
Any Ideas?

Re: Panasonic Viera and Serviio

Did you change your profile? Anyway, the subtitle is requested by the TV so you should see it - is that right? Is the encoding the only problem?

Regarding the images, it looks like this file is causing problem, try removing it and restart Serviio: E:\Fotky\20030527\Wallpaper2.jpg

If that helps, please send the image to my email address so that I can fix this problem, if possible.

Re: Panasonic Viera and Serviio

Yes, I have changed profile. I haven't seen request by TV, how this request should looks like(in log) ?
There shouldn't be a problem with encoding because they were shown correctly from USB flash drive, and they are not shown via DLNA.
I use ISO-8859-2 (Latin2) encoding which is supported by TX-P42G20E
I will send you Wallpaper2.jpg later

Re: Panasonic Viera and Serviio

Hi many thanks for Serviio, its great! Je nejlepsi nasvete! Many many thanks. Your my hero.

I got a Panasonic Viera TX-50G20E as many others here.

I noticed the DTS improvment from old version, works nicely now! ONE final thing to get rid of is the bad aspect ratio in mkv-transcoded movies :roll:, the picture is stretched to fit the screen, while orignial aspect would give black borders. I asked Viera support (arrogant basterds :) ) if anything could be done to correct this problem. Their solitary answer was simply "no". They should get aspect settings hardwareside imho. Are there anything to be done regarding this aspect-matter softwareside (serviio)?

There is already a bitbucket ticket for this to be added to a future version of serviio..

Re: Panasonic Viera and Serviio

Well, many thanks for Servioo.

TV': TX-PF50G20S Localization: Paris
Servioo works fine but unfotunately i can't use it for the following reasons:
Aspect ratio for MP4 (most of my personal films are mp4)
Must restart the server so that the TV recognizes it (it is OK when the PC is wired to the router, it is the case for one of my tvS, but when the PC is connected via wifi, i have to wait few minutes or i have to restart the server).
Can't read MPG (i have quite a few old personal films with this file extension)

Could you post "ffmpeg -i" result of this file?

Re: Panasonic Viera and Serviio

Probably, your Pana doesn't support MPEG1 video with MP2 audio, so you need to transcode it:

  Code:
<Profile id="12" name="Panasonic Viera" extendsProfileId="1">
   <ContentDirectoryMessageBuilder>org.serviio.upnp.service.contentdirectory.PanasonicDLNAMessageBuilder</ContentDirectoryMessageBuilder>
   <SubtitlesMimeType>text/srt</SubtitlesMimeType>
   <MediaFormatProfiles>
      <MediaFormatProfile mime-type="video/divx">AVI</MediaFormatProfile>
   </MediaFormatProfiles>
   <Transcoding>
      <!-- remux DTS in MKV to AC3 -->
      <Video targetContainer="mpegts" targetACodec="ac3">
         <Matches container="matroska" vCodec="h264" aCodec="dca" />
      </Video>
      <!-- Remux all h264 video to MPEG-TS stream -->
      <Video targetContainer="mpegts">
         <Matches container="avi" vCodec="h264" />
         <Matches container="mp4" vCodec="h264" />
         <Matches container="matroska" vCodec="h264" />
      </Video>
      <Video targetContainer="mpegts" targetVCodec="mpeg2video" targetACodec="ac3" aBitrate="192">
         <Matches container="mpeg" aCodec="mp2"/>
      </Video>
      <Audio targetContainer="mp3">
         <Matches container="mp4" />
         <Matches container="flac" />
         <Matches container="ogg" />
      </Audio>
   </Transcoding>
</Profile>

Re: Panasonic Viera and Serviio

After various tests (see me on other topics) it seems that a really nice option for transcoding for Viera TVs would be to MPEG2-TS at 1280x720 with black bars if necessary to preserve the aspect ratio. The TV does not like some other video sizes such as 848x480 and assumes a 4:3 format expanded to 4:3 Full to make up 16:9. The black bars would be essential to preserve the aspect ratio as otherwise wide screen films (for example) would be stretched up and down. Should I add this as an enhancement request / new ticket?

Re: Panasonic Viera and Serviio

I have a problem with subtitles while watching .mkv files.
I have red a whole thread and I was not able to get any help.
Have actually anyone get the subtitles work with . mkv files with panasonic viera TV ?
Do I have to download and use a different profile script ?
Right now I am using general Panasonic Viera profile.
.avi files are playing great with the software.
Just want to get the mkv files with subtitles to work.
My television is Panasonic TX-L37D28
Actually loving the software. Tried absolutely everything on the marked.
So far this is the best.

Re: Panasonic Viera and Serviio

Further to my old posts, I have been experimenting further with MKV videos. If these are remuxed only to MPEG2-TS preserving the H264 video stream then they work fine so long as the audio is AC3. I have added the following to the profile:
----
<Transcoding>
<!-- remux MKV with audio not AC3 to AC3 -->
<Video targetContainer="mpegts" targetACodec="ac3">
<Matches container="matroska" vCodec="h264" aCodec="aac" />
<Matches container="matroska" vCodec="h264" aCodec="mp3" />
<Matches container="matroska" vCodec="h264" aCodec="mp2" />
<Matches container="matroska" vCodec="h264" aCodec="lpcm" />
<Matches container="matroska" vCodec="h264" aCodec="wmav2" />
<Matches container="matroska" vCodec="h264" aCodec="wmapro" />
<Matches container="matroska" vCodec="h264" aCodec="dca" />
</Video>
----
so that all audio streams apart from AC3 are transcoded to AC3. This works very well and the results on the TV are smooth and sharp. Could I have left off the aCodec portions of the profile lines? In other words if I just wanted all MKV/H264 videos to be AC3 audio, would AC3 audio be left alone as transcoding was not necessary.
For example:
----
<Transcoding>
<!-- remux MKV with audio not AC3 to AC3 -->
<Video targetContainer="mpegts" targetACodec="ac3">
<Matches container="matroska" vCodec="h264" />
</Video>
----
Thanks for any help.

Yes, if the audio/video codec of the file is the same as the target audio/video codec it just copies the stream into the new container.

Re: Panasonic Viera and Serviio

If I select viera profile and enable transcoding then Serviio fixes problem with some movies originally not playing, but subtitles don't work in MKV (muxed in mkv).
If I disable transcoding, I can fix my movies manually (if there's a problem with them) and subtitles work properly muxed in MKV!

I have Viera plasma G30 (2011 model).
