Serviio 2.1 isn't seen by 2/3 of my Roku devices.

I have been using Serviio for years on my Linux machine, it has been the best DLNA server I could find. We have been accessing it with our Rokus in the house with no issues until now.

I have had issues upgrading Serviio in the past to newer versions, just mismatches with java, etc. Nothing insurmountable, just how much time was I willing to invest in upgrading. I don't even recall what version I was running up to this point. It might have been 1.10 or older.

But I just did an in-place upgrade of my OS from Devuan Ascii to Devuan Beowulf. I downloaded the new version of Serviio (2.1), decompressed it to /opt/, and updated my java version. After basic configuration, it started creating the media library.

When it was done, I went into the next room and tested it from my kids' TCL Roku TV. Works!
I came to find out, however, that it doesn't work on the two other Rokus in the house.

Here is the setup:
Serviio is on my Linux machine, which is wired connection to the wireless router, static IP.

The Rokus are all on the wireless network, using DHCP to get an IP in the same address space as the server.

I don't have the version info at hand, but here are the Rokus:
1. TCL Roku TV bought this year. 20 feet away on same floor as router, works great.
2. Roku usb stick, 40 feet away, same floor as router. Doesn't find Serviio.
3. Roku 2 (maybe?) 2 floors away in basement, Doesn't find Serviio.

Other computers in the basement access wireless fine, and the Rokus work with all other channels on it so they can connect to the wifi.

The ones that don't work give slightly different errors, but basically they can't see any DLNA servers.
All the Rokus are up to date, and have been restarted.
Nothing else has changed. One day they worked, the next - with the new version of Serviio - they didn't.

I searched the forum, but didn't find an answer if it's out there.
I'm stumped. Any ideas?

Re: Serviio 2.1 isn't seen by 2/3 of my Roku devices.

Well, as you've certainly noticed, Roku released a new version of the Roku Media Player, and it's full of issues. That said, I haven't had any problem seeing my Serviio servers from any of my devices. There are five different Roku 2 players, and only two are still supported by Roku. The other three are too old. If you could look up the exact model number I can tell you if it's one of the legacy models. There's also a really old model of Roku Stick that is no longer supported.

With the new version of RMP, I have seen a lag on occasion before it sees the Serviio server. Since I run two different servers on my network, I have seen times that one appears but not the other. It's something with the Roku I believe, since it sees the other Serviio server that is running the same version.

I have no clue what sort of firewall your Linux install might have, but it might be selective on which devices are permitted through to see things like Serviio. Since the problem began after upgrading both your OS and Serviio at the same time, and the fact that Serviio is visible on at least some network devices, it would seem that your OS is a possible issue. Again, my Linux experience is extremely limited, so perhaps what I'm mentioning isn't a likely scenario. But I think it is worth exploring.

Re: Serviio 2.1 isn't seen by 2/3 of my Roku devices.

To answer some of the points brought up, my firewall on the linux machine is open to the internal network, all other computers can see it, that isn't the issue. And it didn't change with the upgrade as it was an in-place upgrade to a newer OS version. But with computers, you never know. I thought about trying to get the 1.10 version running again, but for some reason it wouldn't run after the upgrade... I was guessing because of the newer java version installed. One would think a newer java would be backwards compatible... but who knows.

But I did come up with another idea - I installed a different lightweight DLNA server. It was running alongside serviio, and the new one was recognized by all my devices. Both servers were recognized by the Roku TV.
So I have shut down serviio, and may come back to it and try to figure it out in the future. The new one is a bit less polished and unfamiliar to me, but it's working.
