Re: black band round movies

The DLNA server is streaming your media. It's not where you would normally watch the media. So exactly what are you using as your player? A Smart TV? Blu Ray player? Streaming media player (Roku, Fire TV, Shield)?

In general you shouldn't need to mess with the screen aspect ratio for your videos. If the media is widescreen, it should fill the screen left and right, while the top/bottom may have bars depending on the aspect ratio of the media itself. But if you're using the TV's aspect button to zoom in a 4:3 image, you're going to cut the top and bottom off the image, which could remove the visible captions. Also, if you're zooming in a 2:35:1 image to fill the 16:9 TV display, again you're cutting off the bottom of the image, and that's where the media producers have placed the captions.

I believe you are using the TC aspect button incorrectly. You should be using it rarely, if at all. I have a few 16:9 DVDs that were authored incorrectly (it wasn't created as an anamorphic image), and I end up with bars around all four sides. If I zoom in to fit the sides, yes the captions disappeared off the bottom. My solution was to replace the DVD version with a Blu ray version, which was authored correctly.

Re: black band round movies

I would have to see the media information. The title means nothing, as it could be modified by someone before it was posted. See the link in my sig line for how to get the media content information.

Re: black band round movies

I can see nothing in the media contents that would indicate it isn't a normal 16:9 video. The info matches what I see when I look at some of my media.

Re: black band round movies

I have no answer for you. For whatever reason your TV is displaying blank space around the image. According to the media information, your media is 16:9, so should fill the screen. However, I have also seen older DVDs that were not authored correctly for 16:9 TVs, and had black bars around all four sides. One example is the Mel Brooks movie Young Frankenstein. My solution was to buy a Blu Ray version, which was correctly authored for 16:9 TVs. Unfortunately, I don't think there's anything that can be done from the Serviio side to resolve this issue. It is streaming the media in the format it is authored in, and the only thing you can do is either accept it or use the TV's zoom control to expand the image.

Re: black band round movies

That one is a completely different format. It uses HEVC (H.265) instead of H.264, it's SD instead of HD resolution, and the SAR/DAR figures are completely different. Not a surprise it looks different on the screen. :D
