M3U files

I did a search here on the board for m3u
No results

So how do i add an m3u file to my server?

I just need one example that works. A walk-thru. Provide me with an example m3u.
I can then take it from there.

How do i get the url that i need to play a channel that streams online for free like CNN? or my local NECN or Channel 10 Boston?

My m3u files look like this
  Code:
#EXTINF:-1,ESPN 3HD
http://dimapro.cz:8080/N2vdf6yju0/ntH7B86Dp6/39079

I do not know if my url is valid. How do i test it?
looks like .cz is suspicious
There is a lot of junk out there.
I want to play with this feature.
Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Re: M3U files

CZ isn't necessarily suspicious. It's the top level domain for the Czech Republic. I'm sure there's many legitimate sites there. But one should always be cautious when exploring any web site that isn't alarge, well known name.

M3U files work fine, but if you're linking to an online source you should know that many online sites either can't be streamed via a DLNA server or require a plug-in to work correctly. You can see the available plug-ins in this section of the forum: viewforum.php?f=20

Also, depending on what you're attempting to stream, you might have better success configuring it as an online resource. Look in the Serviio console, under the Library/Online Sources section. If it's an online RSS/Atom feed, it might work without a plugin. Live Stream is usually some sort of web cam, and web resource is the third option. Again depending on the source, a plugin might be required for it to work.

I can give you an example of a working M3U file, but it's for local media and might not translate directly for online sources.
