Stream Serviio media outside network

Sorry if this has been posted, but I didn't find a topic directly relating to this. I was wondering if the ability to set up a port and username/password was going to be implemented for streaming our serviio media outside our network so we can connect with our laptops, tablets, phones, etc and browse it on the go. Thank you for reading and I again am sorry if this has already been posted/asked.

I have a similar idea in my head and hope I'll get to do it at some point. Not for 0.6, but maybe after that.

Re: Stream Serviio media outside network

It is the only thing missing in Serviio for me. I love being able to stream it on the go from my computer but sadly I have to have TVersity installed to accomplish this right now. Not that I have anything wrong with TVersity, but I want to support Serviio more and use it as my sole media server. I think it is going in the right direction and seems to only be getting better. I hope this functionality can be added soon in the next few releases :)

Re: Stream Serviio media outside network

I wanted to demo Serviio at work using my iPad but I realised that it doesn't work across subnets. I set up a directed broadcast ACL on the router to relay Serviio's announce traffic but apparently the uPnP stuff for locating the server and clients is actually multicast traffic, which most network kit will not route by default. I considered making changes but I didn't want the risk of breaking my network core.
Presumably whatever solution you get working would not be DLNA.

No, it would be most likely web-like streaming (you tube), will have to think about it
