Rotel RT-12 Digital Gateway/Tuner

Hi,
I have installed serviio on PC with Windows 10 and have set live online audio stream (radio station) veryfied by servio.
My Rotel RT-12 Digital Gateway/Tuner can see serviio as UPnP Server and can see radio station added to servio but when I choose that station on Rotel Rt-12 on its display I get "Connecting" for about 90 seconds than "End of queue" and nothing further happens.

What else needs to be done to have it work?

Thank you in advance and best regards.

Re: Rotel RT-12 Digital Gateway/Tuner

Can any device successfully connect to the stream, either through Serviio or some other method? It's possible that the stream needs some sort of plug-in to work correctly. The Serviio developer does not create these plug-ins, but there are some tutorials available in the plug-ins section of the forum.

Re: Rotel RT-12 Digital Gateway/Tuner

Yes, Rotel RT-12 itself can connect to the stream and play it.
In the past RT-12 worked through Reciva and before Reciva has been shout down I have saved only 1 station in RT-12 presets and now only this 1 internet radiostation is possible to play on my RT-12 directly from presets -this is why I want to set serviio as UPnP Server - and to try Serviio so far I have added 2 live online audio streams (radio station), one of them is the one which is already in presets but none of streams added to Serviio can play on my RT-12.
Later on I will try wheather any other device can successfully connect to the stream through Serviio but in the meantime I would appreciate any advice what to do to have Serviio work with Rotel RT-12 or any other help how to make Rotel RT-12 to be Digital Gateway again.

Re: Rotel RT-12 Digital Gateway/Tuner

In the Serviio console, you could try changing the source type to either Live Stream and Web Resource, to see if one of them permits streaming to work. If neither does, then it's likely a stream that needs some sort of plug-in to work correctly. I don't know anything about plug-ins myself, so can't assist with that.

Re: Rotel RT-12 Digital Gateway/Tuner

Thank you atc98092.
I will check source type settings for those live stream but I have checked and other devices can successfully connect to the stream through Serviio and play it well (and the second stream I have added as well).
When I have added second stream I think Rt-12 can see them both like sort of queue of files to play. It is trying "Connecting" for about 90 seconds to the first one than starts "Connecting" with second stream for another 90 seconds, than "End of queue" appears on the display but none of streams is beeing played just list of streams to choose stays and display.
I have also added to Serviio MP3 audio files and those are being played well on my RT-12.

Re: Rotel RT-12 Digital Gateway/Tuner

If you could provide a URL, I could try it here as well.

Re: Rotel RT-12 Digital Gateway/Tuner

Please find URL I am trying to play:
https://stream.rcs.revma.com/an1ugyygzk8uv
This URL is playing well on RT-12 from its presets and through servio on other devices but can not connect through servio on RT-12 as none of live stream I have treid so far can.
If I change on servio settings source type to other than Live Stream none of the devices can see streams as available.
The only difference I have noticed playing this stream from RT12 presets it is 128 kbps and thorugh servio on other device it is 320 kbps but I do not think this could be the reason since MP3 audio files shared through Servio are being played well on my RT-12 no matter if they are 128 or 320 kbps.

Re: Rotel RT-12 Digital Gateway/Tuner

OK, I copied that URL and set it up in my test Serviio server. I configured it as a Live Stream and clicking the test button it checked good. I then tested it first in MediaBrowser and and it played as expected. I then tried a Roku Premiere player, and it too played fine. By all appearances it appears to be an issue with the way the RT-12 handles a DLNA audio stream, not Serviio. Since it can play the stream directly, and other devices can play it through Serviio without a problem, it's probably better to just play it direct with the Rotel.

Re: Rotel RT-12 Digital Gateway/Tuner

Thank you.
Since Reciva is down to play direct streams I would have to do hardware modification on RT-12 which I am trying to avoid and therefore I am looking for other solution.
Do you think that there is no other way to convert direct streams to make it playable on RT-12 through UPnP Server like Serviio while RT-12 can play MP3 audio files from Serviio?

Re: Rotel RT-12 Digital Gateway/Tuner

I know nothing about the RT-12, so really can't offer any suggestions for it. Since the stream works for me on multiple devices, it doesn't appear that anything on the Serviio side would need to be done. Without more detail about the Rotel's abilities, I can't say if a different profile in Serviio would be of any help. Sorry I can't be of more assistance.

Re: Rotel RT-12 Digital Gateway/Tuner

Hello again,

I have sent below question to Rotel:

"I have set UPnP Server on my PC and can stream and play e.g. MP3 music on my RT-12 from e.g. Windows Media Player (or other UPnP Server).
Unfortunatelly I can not play on RT-12 live stream (radio stations) which is well played on Windows Media Player.
What needs to be done to be able to stream live stream from UPnP server to RT-12 and play it on RT-12?
Do I need to have some sort of plug-in?
Can you please provide such plug-in?"

And this is the Answer I got:

"I’m afraid that UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) and RTSP (Real Time Streaming Protocol) are different protocols.
You can only open an URL in Windows Media Player to play the online radio stream,
But there is no way to convert and record a real time audio stream into a local audio file as UPnP transferring required, so there is no plug-in can do this job."

Since the stream works via UPnP on other devices I do not think Rotel's answer is right.
What detail about the Rotel's abilities would have to be given by Rotel to make live stream via UPnP playable on Rotel's Tuner?

Re: Rotel RT-12 Digital Gateway/Tuner

I agree that I don't think their answer is completely accurate. It's true that uPNP and RTSP are different protocols, but Serviio can handle the conversion of the stream to the DLNA stream.

I did a bit of searching, and the Serviio wiki has some suggestions about getting streams working correctly. See if any of this is of any help to you: https://wiki.serviio.org/doku.php?id=add_live_feeds

Re: Rotel RT-12 Digital Gateway/Tuner

Thank you but I think suggestion you have pointed is really about getting streams working correctly in Serviio which not the case since as we have both checked URL has been possitivelly veryfied by Serviio as live stream and playable on other devices. Question is what info is needed from Rotel for someone to work further to make live stream from Serviio being playable also on RT-12?

Yeah, doesn't sound like they're interested in assisting you with that.
