Cannot add music folder as library on macOS Sequoia

I installed Serviio 2.4 on my macMini running macOS Sequioa. I want to add the folder that contains all music from the standard app (Music.app). The path is /Users/<my_username>/Music but it does not show up in the browse window that appears when you add a new library. Any idea why not?

On most computers Serviio runs as a system service. That means it only has permission to access specific file locations. With your music located under a user account, the system likely does not have the rights to access it. The solution is to a) put the music in a more generic location, b) give the service that Serviio uses permission to access the current folder, or c) change the account that Serviio uses to run under. I can't say how to do that on a Mac (which has similar permissions to Linux), but it should be something easily found with a web search.

Serviio runs as a daemon under the "root" account. This should mean that it can read all directories, including those in my HOME-directory. This is possible: I can sudo to root and list contents of the folder /users/janMusic/Music/Media.localized/Music. The Serviio console runs under my account name. In the console I have to browse to the directory /users/jan/Music/Music/Media.localized/Music, but the only directory I see in /users/jan/Music is "Audio Music Apps"; the other directories do not show up.

I increased log level and restarted the daemon. I see a lot of error messages in /Library/Application Support/Serviio/log/serviio.log. These errors are about the One Drive symlink in my HOME-directory, so I removed that one. Now no more errors, but still unable to browse to my music files ...

Well, I'm stumped then. Root should certainly be able to access the music folder you're using. But it is odd the console won't see the folders since it's under the same user account.

I still think it's a permissions issue, but why I can't say. My suggestion would be to make a new, separate folder off the root of the hard drive (not under a user folder) labeled music, media, or some such name. Give that folder wide open permissions, and see if music in that folder shows up.
