S570 says 480i

So I managed to get serviio working perfectly after using tsmuxer to make my mkv files into m2ts. Yay!

The issue (or maybe not an issue) is that the bluray player says that the video file is 480i. From my eyes, it doesn't look anything like 480i. It looks better on my computer of course because of the smaller monitor so better dpi, but on my HDTV, it still looks good. Definitely not 480i in my eyes.

Maybe I'm blind and it is 480i or the bluray player over DLNA can't tell the difference between 480i and 1080p. Can anyone confirm this or is this an issue that I need to resolve?

Thanks.

You can look at the file with MediaInfo or ffmpeg -i to see what the resolution is. The new TV's do an amazing job at upscaling ;-)

Yeah. Mediainfo definitely says 1080. Is my 570 downscaling it? =[

Can you rename your existing serviio log and enable detailed logging (link in signature). And post the serviio.log file on here, you might have to zip it up.

Re: S570 says 480i

I think it's either the player not recognizing it properly or it thinks it's 480i based on what metadata serviio sends. It definitely does not change the resolution of your video, even if it was transcoding it. No need to send the log, there will be nothing there.

I think its not really an issue. Its seem that this information displayed 480i doesn't come from DLNA media but from the last viewed media (DVD, BR on HDMI).
In fact S570 have an upscaling features: "According to the Sound and Vision magazine review the Sony BDP-S570 player will convert film based 480I DVD's to 1080P/24."
Could you make this test:
- Power-up S570 BDP
- View an BR disc with an high resolution (1080p, 720p- HighDTV).
- Stop BR viewing
- Start Serviio server with your file and display information.
- Power-off S570 BDP

Another test
- Power-up S570 BDP
- View an DVD disc with an low resolution (480i NTSC or 576i PAL - StandardDTV), (480p NTSC or 576p PAL - EnhancedDTV)
- Stop DVD viewing
- Start Serviio server with your file and display information.
- Power-off S570 BDP

First test failed. Even when I play a 1080p bluray disc, it still says 480i for the BR Disc. Switching to Serviio doesn't change anything. The quality is clearly bluray but not 480i. Something just buggy but doesn't affect normal use with the firmware/my player or something then.

How do you have your tv hooked up to the bluray player?

If you're using the composite output (yellow video connector) then everything will be displayed on the tv as 480i.

You need to use the HDMI output to get the 1080p resolution.

Re: S570 says 480i

that is a good point, even if you have a HDMI cable connecting the two, you might have problems if you have an older version of the cable and a newer TV or Blu-ray player. I think the current version is 1.4 of the HDMI cable.

I did read on MaximumPC website that a new active HDMI cable was out and it works alot better than the older HDMI cables since it boosts the signal righ before it gets to the TV.
