Re: Sony Bravia 2011 Series

I have some files that plays fine (On Windows media player)for the first 30 minutes or so then there would be some synching issues with the video. Audio seems fine, but the video playback seems like somebody is pressing fast forward then pause then fast forward then pause.

But when I play the same file on Serviio it only says "Server temporarily unavailable please try later". It doesn't play at all.

My TV is a 2011 40CX520 series.

This is the FFMPEG -i output

Seems stream 1 codec frame rate differs from container frame rate: 47.95 (27956/583) -> 23.98 (24000/1001)

could this be the culprit ?

I've check the codec/format supported by Sony 2011 tv's and AVC codec is under AVCHD container and the extention is *.M2ts is this the same as mpeg2ts ?
It sounds like a remux type of conversion.

Media info says its an AVC video codec and an AVC audio coded.

I've been browsing through the profile.xml file and I couldn't find any mediaformatprofile tags for AVC

Another question. Is there any Sony Bravia 2011 beta profile in the works ? Where can I get a hold of one.
Will it be bundled in version 0.6 ? When will 0.6 be available ?

Re: Sony Bravia 2011 Series

Are you wired or Wifi ?

nzboi wrote:My TV is a 2011 40CX520 series.

Could you provide GetProtocolInfo : viewtopic.php?f=5&t=19

It seems that 2011 models may support *.mp4 file with MP4 container, H264/AVC video and AAC audio like yours. So serviio could probably provide it in native format.
Select Generic Profile, restart serviio and retry with this file.
Could you also provide detailed logging file (see my signature) when you start this file?

nzboi wrote:I've check the codec/format supported by Sony 2011 tv's and AVC codec is under AVCHD container and the extention is *.M2ts is this the same as mpeg2ts ?
It sounds like a remux type of conversion.

.m2ts is an extension of .ts to support new AVC/h264 format read that:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AVCHD
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MPEG_trans ... .28M2TS.29
AVCHD utilizes MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 (AVC) video coding and either Dolby AC-3 (Dolby Digital) or uncompressed linear PCM audio coding.
Audio, video, subtitle, and ancillary streams are multiplexed into an MPEG transport stream .
Transport Stream had been originally designed for broadcast. Later it was adapted for usage with digital video cameras, recorders and players by adding a 4-byte timecode (TC) to standard 188-byte packets, which resulted in a 192-byte packet.[14][15] This is what is informally called M2TS stream. Blu-ray Disc Association calls it "BDAV MPEG-2 transport stream".[14]

Not really, this topic his here for user experience feedback to work on Sony Bravia 2011 profile.
You could start with Generic profile.
Also you could start with that:

Re: Sony Bravia 2011 Series

I am on a wired setup.

I don't want serviio to hand me off that file. Although documentation states that it supports that format, but during playback (via USB) the video stutters after 30 minutes and the rest of the movie is unwatchable. I actually want serviio to transcode it to a more generic less compressed format like MPEG.

My current dilemma is currently it's not being played at all and I'm getting "Server temporarily unavailable, try again later".

I think I tried the Bravia 2011 profile the other day and still got the Server unavailable error and the other files that Serviio usually handle won't transcode at all. I will however try again later.

Currently using the Bravia 2010 TV profile

Good, did you use Ethernet-Switch between your TV, PC(serviio) and router ?

nzboi wrote:...but during playback (via USB) the video stutters after 30 minutes and the rest of the movie is unwatchable.

Probably due to a high video bitrate after 30mn, could you check with that tool?

nzboi wrote:I actually want serviio to transcode it to a more generic less compressed format like MPEG.

Ok, but that could not be specific to that file, but for all MP4 files with H264/AVC video and AAC audio
For example add this just after <Transcoding> tab on Sony Bravia 2010 profile section:
  Code:
         <Video targetContainer="mpegts" targetVCodec="mpeg2video" targetACodec="ac3" aBitrate="192">
            <Matches container="mp4" vCodec="h264" aCodec="aac" />
         </Video>

nzboi wrote:My current dilemma is currently it's not being played at all and I'm getting "Server temporarily unavailable, try again later".

Humm ??
Could you enable detailed logging (see my signature) and check the lines when you select and start this file on Sony XMB menu ?

Re: Sony Bravia 2011 Series

If you mean pc and tv connected to the same hub then yes.

I took the 2011 profile and tested it with problematic files.

The files that were giving out errors under the 2010 profile is now playing under the 2011 profile and still showing the same 30 minute stutter symptom. Serviio is now just passing the data and letting the TV do the decoding hence the stutter on the 30 min mark. The usual suspects are the 720p files. the bit rate average is 1k maximum of 8k. What I don't know is why around the 30 minute mark when the bit rate is only around 2500kbps.

This is my work in progress Sony 2011 profile. I've added some lines in the transcode section so the AVI files will be show up at the very least. If I use the stripped down 2011 you provided the avi files don't list at all.

I've removed some of my original comments here. The AVI error that I've captured is due to the file being stored on a external hard drive on a eco mode. Transferred it to my OS drive and it's fine.

So far I'm pretty happy with my version of sony 2011 profile. I love Serviio's configurability, I tried windows media player but it doesn't seem to transcode at all. Tversity's option is quite limited in terms of transcoding ( None, some , transcode all).

I noticed in the 2010 profile that there are profile=high/main and there are levelgreaterthan=4.1 entries. What does it mean/imply ?

Stutter issue

All the video files that stutters has high H264 profile and at Level 4.1

Can Serviio, more specifically ffmpeg re-encode them to a lower level ? say 4.0 ? Or will that be too CPU intensive and re-encoding them to a less demanding codec like MPEG be better ?

I saw this on the earlier pages of this thread

  Code:
<Transcoding>
         <Video targetContainer="mpegts" targetVCodec="mpeg2video" targetACodec="ac3" aBitrate="384">
            <Matches container="mp4" vCodec="h264" profile="high" levelGreaterThan="4.1" />
            <Matches container="mp4" vCodec="h264" profile="main" levelGreaterThan="4.1" />
         </Video>

I'll be reading some more ffmpeg documentation to check whether there's a h264 profile re-encoding.

Re: Sony Bravia 2011 Series

I think we need to comment out one of the Mediaformatprofile entries.

On the sony stuttering issue, I usually get them on 720p encoded with Apple's quicktime h264 profile. I haven't had any trouble with x264 (library) encoded files so far.

Re: Sony Bravia 2011 Series

Is a target codec parameter still mandatory in a Video targetContainer line in Serviio 0.5.2? I think I recall such a rule from olden times...

I've got a brand new 24EX320 and I'd very much like to pass as many of my self made mkv files (mostly h264/aac, some h264/ac3, made from TS DVB recordings to save a lot of disk space) to my Sony with as less transcoding as possible. Would this
  Code:
         <Video targetContainer="mpegts">
            <Matches container="matroska" vCodec="h264" aCodec="ac3"/>
         </Video>
         <Video targetContainer="mpegts" targetACodec="ac3" aBitrate="192">
            <Matches container="matroska" vCodec="h264" aCodec="aac"/>
         </Video>
         <Video targetContainer="mpegts" targetVCodec="mpeg2video" targetACodec="ac3" aBitrate="384">
            <Matches container="matroska"/>
         </Video>
be valid chain to just remux h264/ac3, transcode h264/aac to h264/ac3 and transcode both video and audio of all other mkv stuff to mpeg2/ac3 to make it somehow playable?

Is there any other way to trick the EX320 into playing h264/aac natively, perhaps by faking an MP4 container?

BTW, I experience a massive stutter (in fact jumping frames back and forth) when the Sony starts tp play back those mkvs. If I stop and restart the same file, it plays perfectly smooth right away.

Re: Sony Bravia 2011 Series

Profile is working as supposed: mkv (h264/ac3) plays now without transcoding, just remuxed. mkv (h264/aac) gets its audio transcoded and remuxed, and mkvs with any other codecs (haven't got any) should be fully transcoded.

I tried playing mkv h264/aac just remuxed to mpegts, but there is no sound. Is that by (Sony's) design that aac in mpegts doesn't work or could there be any other screw to tweak?

There still is that annoying stutter @ the beginning of each mkv. As I mentioned before, frames jump back and forth for about 7 to 10 seconds. From then on everything runs smoothly. I checkced if this a wifi issue, and it's not, since the stutter is still there if I connect the Bravia via wire. Any ideas?

That could be included in the next release, I'll check that with my EX500.

The only MPEGTS/AVC-H264/AAC profile I see that the sony could supported were :
http-get:*:video/vnd.dlna.mpeg-tts:DLNA.ORG_PN=AVC_TS_JP_AAC_T;DLNA.ORG_FLAGS=8d700000000000000000000000000000,
I don't know exactly what is the specification of this profile and what it the serviio generic equivalence profile...AVC_TS_MP_SD_AAC_MULT5_T, AVC_TS_MP_HD_AAC_MULT5_T?

You could try some stuff:

  Code:
<MediaFormatProfile mime-type="video/vnd.dlna.mpeg-tts" name="MPEG_TS_SD_EU,MPEG_TS_SD_NA,MPEG_TS_SD_KO">AVC_TS_MP_SD_AAC_MULT5</MediaFormatProfile>
<MediaFormatProfile mime-type="video/vnd.dlna.mpeg-tts" name="MPEG_TS_SD_EU,MPEG_TS_SD_NA,MPEG_TS_SD_KO">AVC_TS_MP_SD_AAC_MULT5_T</MediaFormatProfile>
<MediaFormatProfile mime-type="video/vnd.dlna.mpeg-tts" name="MPEG_TS_SD_EU,MPEG_TS_SD_NA,MPEG_TS_SD_KO">AVC_TS_MP_SD_AAC_MULT5_ISO</MediaFormatProfile>
<MediaFormatProfile mime-type="video/vnd.dlna.mpeg-tts" name="MPEG_TS_SD_EU,MPEG_TS_SD_NA,MPEG_TS_SD_KO">AVC_TS_MP_SD_MPEG1_L3</MediaFormatProfile>
<MediaFormatProfile mime-type="video/vnd.dlna.mpeg-tts" name="MPEG_TS_SD_EU,MPEG_TS_SD_NA,MPEG_TS_SD_KO">AVC_TS_MP_SD_MPEG1_L3_T</MediaFormatProfile>
<MediaFormatProfile mime-type="video/vnd.dlna.mpeg-tts" name="MPEG_TS_SD_EU,MPEG_TS_SD_NA,MPEG_TS_SD_KO">AVC_TS_MP_SD_MPEG1_L3_ISO</MediaFormatProfile>
<MediaFormatProfile mime-type="video/vnd.dlna.mpeg-tts" name="MPEG_TS_SD_EU,MPEG_TS_SD_NA,MPEG_TS_SD_KO">AVC_TS_MP_SD_AAC_MULT5</MediaFormatProfile>
<MediaFormatProfile mime-type="video/vnd.dlna.mpeg-tts" name="MPEG_TS_SD_EU,MPEG_TS_SD_NA,MPEG_TS_SD_KO">AVC_TS_MP_SD_AAC_MULT5_T</MediaFormatProfile>

or

<MediaFormatProfile mime-type="video/vnd.dlna.mpeg-tts" name="AVC_TS_JP_AAC_T">AVC_TS_MP_SD_AAC_MULT5_T</MediaFormatProfile>

Sometime, I also have some stutter with HD transcoding, but I think is due to the Low CPU power.
Because when stuttering appears, I press "Pause", wait some minute (for temporally file to be encoded), then resume , stuttering disappear.
One think we could check is start locally the ffmpeg command and check the fps processing rate to check if CPU power is comfortable.

I'll give mkv(h264/aac) re-wrapped as mpegts another try tonight, cause I've just read in the official Sony compatibility chart that aac in mpegts is supported. h264 in mpegts is not, unfortunately, although video plays fine, maybe it's the combination.

It looks like it, yes, but those videos are mkv 720x400 h264/ac3 and should just be re-wrapped into an mpegts container by the matching rules I set up a few posts ago. I watched processes/cpu on the server while playing them, and there's no ffmpeg process spawned, so there should be no transcoding taking place while I experience those jerky first seconds. There must be something catching up within the first seconds of the video, but I haven't got a clue what that something might be.

Re: Sony Bravia 2011 Series

Illico,

After some Tests, I can say that with your first profile snippet, it looks like mkv(h264/aac) rewrapped to mpegts is going to start playing, but it doesn't, the little green i'm-going-to-play-any-moment-now-triangle in the corner of the screen just disappears, leaving plain black.

With the second snippet mkv(h264/aac) files rewrapped to mpegts aren't even listed on the Bravia.

My latest Bravia 2011 transcoding section looks like so:
  Code:
         <Video targetContainer="mpegts">
            <Matches container="matroska" vCodec="h264" aCodec="ac3"/>
         </Video>
         <Video targetContainer="mpegts" targetACodec="ac3" aBitrate="192" forceStereo="true">
            <Matches container="matroska" vCodec="h264" />
         </Video>
         <Video targetContainer="mpegts" targetVCodec="mpeg2video" targetACodec="ac3" aBitrate="192" forceStereo="true">
            <Matches container="matroska" />
            <Matches container="avi" />
            <Matches container="mpeg" />
           <Matches container="asf" />
       <Matches container="mp4" />
       <Matches container="flv" />
       <Matches container="wtv" />
          </Video>

I added forceStereo, because the TV can't do anything else anyway. Transcoding avi into mpeg2video as well is my only way so far to list and play avis at all. I see some room for improvement towards native playing there.

Hmmm,
Low

Re: Sony Bravia 2011 Series

I only have an older Bravia so I can't test anything, but on the subject of trying to get native playback of AVIs as far as possible - have you tried remuxing them to MP4 container? DivX and Xvid are permitted video codecs for MP4 since they're effectively MPEG4 ASP, and MP3 audio is also allowed. I have found however that some devices (like iPads for instance) will refuse playback unless you transcode the audio to AAC which is still a lot better than re-encoding everything. Unfortunately you can't do that with the FFmpeg that's bundled with Serviio (the FAAC encoder is not GPL licence, and the built-in AAC encoder is awful) but if you can get the Bravia working with pre-converted files perhaps Zip can add AAC as a transcode option and people could drop in an FFmpeg obtained somewhere else, or even self-compiled.
You can get an FFmpeg binary which can encode AAC here and I also list the necessary command line syntax:
viewtopic.php?f=5&t=36#p4006
If you want to compile your own, I've written up instructions for 32bit and 64bit Windows:
viewtopic.php?f=7&t=2276
LG OLED55B8PLA | PS4 Pro | Xbox One S | Synology DS214play
Serviio 2.1 package for Synology NAS - with limited hardware transcoding support!

Sony 2011 video stutter H.264

I think that files that were encoded using coreavc software would stutter under the sony's native h.264 decoder. X264 encoded files seems to play fine.

Can the betatesters give it a go? Hopefully AVI playback should work now.
