Renaming of files

I've been thinking about going through all my movies/tv shows and renaming them to a more standard naming convention. Right now the file names are very basic (just show name plus episode name) and although they are not really causing any issues, I would like them to be more standardized (that and allow serviio to better serve them)

My question is... whats the best/recommended naming convention for movies,tv shows, and even audio.

Thoughts?

Re: Renaming of files

for movies, the folder matters most, ideally including the year if there are more movies with the same name, e.g.

  Code:
 "The Movie (2009)/the movie.avi"

or

  Code:
 "d:\movies\The Movie (2009).avi"

For series you can do something like:

  Code:
d:\videos\series\how I met your mother\season 1\s01e01 - episode name.avi

Re: Renaming of files

Is there a certain way I can get it so some of my Movies show up under "Series"? For example, I would like Star Wars Episodes 1-6 all listed as a Star Wars series. In my .NFO files there is a node for this called SET. Which does what I am looking for on XBMC. Can Serviio use this node if set?

  Code:

Re: Renaming of files

ok... how about if I restructure my files so that all the Star Wars movies are in their own sub-folder? Would it show up under Series then? Or is Series only for tv shows?

Re: Renaming of files

Series are just for series.

You might be able to put the files in their own folder and add that folder to serviio. Disable online metadata, and create your own series information in a nfo file. Take the xml nfo information below and customize it. By putting in the information on the Star Wars movies and creating a seperate episode.nfo for each movie.

  Code:
TV Shows
The filename of the NFO should be tvshow.nfo (Exact, NOT the name of the actual TV show) and it should be in the root folder of the TV show.
The nfo xml file may contain a valid <episodeguideurl> to allow online updates. If not, only episodes with nfo files will be added.

The *.nfo must be named exactly as the episode filename (i.e. episodename.avi and episodename.nfo) and in the same folder, allowing multiple episode and *.nfo files within the same folder. Episode names must still follow the naming convention even though you are using a custom NFO file.

For multi-part episodes, simply add multiple <episodedetails> XML blocks in succession.

Re: Renaming of files

I finally had some time to try creating a "series" with my movies and just can't seem to get this to work. I'm starting small with just trying to get my 3 episodes of Minion Madness to work (from the Despicible Me movie shorts).

The Minion Madness are in their own folder and I created a tvshow.nfo for that folder. I also created new nfo files for each of the three movie shorts using the episodedetails format. Nothing is working. Instead I am getting a warning saying that the tvshow can not be parsed.

  Code:
2011-07-31 10:15:58,820 INFO  [LibraryAdditionsCheckerThread] Added file 'Despicable Me - Home Makeover Mini Movie (2010).avi' (title: Despicable Me - Home Makeover Mini Movie (2010)) to Library

I double checked the XML to make sure that all nodes are opened/closed properly and can not find anything wrong with it...

He is not trying to rename individual files. He is trying to customize the metadata to get movies that are in a series ie Star Wars in a common series format like a TV series format.

I noticed that you are missing a few of the tag groups from the example of this page.

http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=Import_-_Export_Library#TV_Shows I would try and make sure it meets this as close as possible. Or maybe even copying the example and changing the title and set information and seeing if it works.

You might be able to install xbmc and import your .nfo files and see if it finds any problems. Or you might be able to use a program like notepad ++ to Validate your .nfo xml file.

if you have firefox installed it will also help validate your xml file.

I think that you missed a few posts in This thread. He does not want to match the names on any of these;

IMDb.com, TV.com, theTVDB.com, EPGUIDES.com and MMA

He is trying to group the Star Wars Movies into folder under "Series" Called "Star Wars".

That is why he is trying to create a special tvshow.nfo file in xml.

I just tried renaming the movie files, but the log still shows that it's unable to parse the tvshow.nfo file. For the life of me, I can not see what's wrong with the NFO file.

Is it because I'm trying to fool Serviio into thinking that a movie is a TV series? I'm not a big fan of having to rename movie files to look like TV shows, but thought I'd try it anyway. I even redid the directory structure for these files (I added a season directory even though there is no such thing)

  Code:
M:\Movies\D\
  |__ Despicable Me - Minion Madness
        |_ tvshow.nfo
        |_ Season 1
             |_Despicable Me - Minion Madness.S01E01.Home Makeover.avi
             |_Despicable Me - Minion Madness.S01E01.Home Makeover.jpg
             |_Despicable Me - Minion Madness.S01E01.Home Makeover.nfo
             |_ .....

Just too bad Serviio can't understand the <SET> node within an NFO file. Would make things so much easier and less "hacked"

Re: Renaming of files

I will try it when I get home and see what I can come up with. It should work using the tvshow.nfo file. I want to see if I can get this to work myself, cause it would be a great was to organize my vacation movies.

Re: Renaming of files

It was clearly something in my NFO file (posted in previous post above) that serviio is not liking. I stripped out everything except the title (see below) and now it's picking it up.

  Code:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>
<tvshow>
  <title>Minion Madness</title>
</tvshow>

Re: Renaming of files

Ok, I would then put in the 1st half and see if there error comes back. If it does I would cut out the 1st half of what is there and try it again, if not I would put in the 1st half of the 2nd half. and keep doing this until I have narrowed it down to the problem. Basically you split each problem area down until you find the problem.

Ok, it worked... kind of.

I was only able to get it to work by placing the movies in a "season 1" subfolder (unless I am doing something wrong). The the movies are grouped, however, the display just makes no sense. I click on SERIES, then select STAR WARS, then click on SEASON 1 to access my movies. Ontop of that the movies are all listed with the numbering now. Not exactly what I was trying for. So as mentioned above, it worked (since it did what Serviio is supposed to do), it just didn't give me the result I liked.

It would be so great if SERVIIO used the SET field of the NFO files. That would take care of exactly what I am trying to get.

You can add comment on existing ticket : https://bitbucket.org/xnejp03/serviio/i ... -be-parsed
Or create a new one.
