Pausing and Resuming MKV causes random skipping

I did look at this forum and surprised I havent seen anyone posting this issue...

When I play mkv files on Serviio on my Bravia TV I've noticed this constantly when pausing and resuming.
Not sure it does this when it's transcoding a file but when the mkv file is remuxed to play when you pause the video, doesn't matter for how long, if you press play it holds for few seconds and the mkv doesn't resume where it was paused, it either jumps or goes back a few seconds randomly

This does not happen on the ps3 but on my bravia tv

Could you post the detailed logging file (see signature)? What is your ffmpeg version installed?

Its probably due to how ps3 and bravia tv request video buffer.
It's a suggestion, not sure, but when pause and resume occured, the resume is perhaps starting at the begining of the video buffer.

Re: Pausing and Resuming MKV causes random skipping

I'm going to test this properly later today, today I've been granted access to the latest beta so see what happens :D
I have noticed user Elfish has the same issue in the beta forum

I don't think it's the renderer or my connection because I never had this issue streaming via ps3ms.

Yeah serviio kicks ps3ms the way it navigates on Bravia TV

Ive read ur post about u updating ffmpeg to avoid stuttering when forwarding but does it Pause and Resume smoothly?

no

it's still stuttering
but the stuttering is much shorter tho :(

i even tried to move /tmp to a ram disk.
that didn't help either.

Also happens to me with my Bravia TV. When pausing and then unpausing it skips ahead a bit dependent on how long I have had it paused.

I also get this issue, as well as stuttering from the start of playback and all the way through, as these the same issue of similar but different root causes?

Re: Pausing and Resuming MKV causes random skipping

This issue is still present in Sony Bravia with version 0.6, mine doesn't stutter, probably its your connection.
Sometimes it does jump backwards but mainly forward about 30 seconds, and it doesn't matter how much long you pause it for, it seems it's random.

Not sure if it's a ffmpeg issue as PS3 works fine. Other media servers pause & resume fine on my Bravia though... :?:

Re: Pausing and Resuming MKV causes random skipping

I have a theory ;-) It's a transcoded file and Serviio only supports time based seek for those. It works out the byte position by multiplying average transcoding bitrate by the requested time. As the bitrate varies throughout the file the result might be off. So to conclude, the time based seek in Serviio is not very precise and the pause problem is 'expected'.
