Samsung BD 6500 DLNA playback issues

I have a Samsung 6500 BD player. I am using Serviio to pull movies off my network PC. I used to be able to ffw/rwd movies or go to tools and select a start point. After to latest update for my Samsung BD player, this option is not there anymore. So if for any reason the wireless connection gets interrupted during a movie, you have to start from the beginning again (ANNOYING!!). I have tried two formats mpg and vob. Anyone have any suggestions?
Re: Samsung BD 6500 DLNA playback issues
You might want to think about rolling back the update on your 6500. I would look at what changed and then if nothing that affects you changed, try and get the prior version of the firmware. Install it and then turn off auto update.
Does serviio still recognize the Samsung? Or do you have to select it each time.

Re: Samsung BD 6500 DLNA playback issues
I have a Samsung BD-C6500(T) updated to BSP-C6500WWB-1021.1.
I am experiencing none of the issues you describe. FYI, the (T) just refers to the packaging of the BluRay Tolkien Trilogy along with the player. There is no difference between models with and without the (T).
I realize you said your model was a BD 6500 but a google search convinced me you left out the "C". I'm hoping you just need to update the firmware although if its set to auto update, it should already be the same as mine. Are you making these files yourself? If so, describe your method, maybe we can find a flaw there. Serviio 0.5.2 detects mine as a "Samsung TV / Player (C/D-series)" under both device name and profile. The only issue I've run into is with some .mkv files that i have to remux with mkvmerge 3.4.0 as newer releases of mkvmerge produce .mkv's that attempt to play but end up displaying "unknown format" although they play fine on my pc with several different players.(vlc, media player classic from current cccp, xbmc...)
Good luck regardless, I can't imagine not being able to jump to a specific time after you've lost your connection.
Update:
on Sept 10, 2011 mine auto updated to BSP-C6500WWB-1022.3.
I'll let you know if it addressed any of my "unknown format" .mkv's or not. (along with Serviio 0.6 now)
Update:
on Oct 6, 2011, BSP-C6500WWB=1023.0 was released.
Neither of the last two updates improve .mkv compatibility. The only solution I've come up with is to remux the .mkv with MKVtoolnix 3.4, use 4.0.0 and you lose functionality, anything newer and they don't seem to wanna play at all.
Update:
on Nov 14, 2011, BSP-C6500WWB=1024.0 was released.
It supposedly Improves specific disc''s playback capability like the others.

i second that.
FYI - never try and revert the firmware on a samsung device as you are then like just going to BRICK it, and they update the firmware for a reason so ALWAYS use the ltest firmware availible.

Re: Samsung BD 6500 DLNA playback issues
My player is actually a D6500. I can't get Serviio to automatically recognize the player, i have to choose it from the pulldown.
I am using WinX DVD to rip my dvd's to mpgs. The files play fine in Windows media player and Media Center.
The software version that was last loaded is BSP-D6500ZA-1015.5
Still can't ffw/rwd.....

I'm having similar resume playback issues with a Samsung BD-C5500 player. Serviio .6 is set up and recognizes it as "Samsung TV/player (C/D-series)".
Started an MKV for 30 seconds. Stop button. Play button -> restarted at 00:00.
I read posts about the blue button, which I'm not sure exactly how to use it, but tried the following:
Started an MKV for 30 seconds. Stop button. Blue button -> nothing
Started an MKV for 30 seconds. Stop button. Start button (restarted at 00:00). Blue buttom -> nothing
What am I missing here? Thanks
Re: Samsung BD 6500 DLNA playback issues
I also have a BD-C6500, and use Serviio to play music files (mp3). I generally select the Genres to select the type of music I wish to play, and the player will load up to 1001 pages of songs, so I have learned to keep each genre under that figure.
With the upgrade to 0.6, I can only load the smallest of selections, up to 5 or 6 pages. if I try to load a larger genre (almost all of them) I get an error message "Request cannot be completed. MEDIA PLAY will be returned to the main screen."
All worked fine before the upgrade to 0.6, so I'd like to roll back to 0.5.2, but need some advice on how to do that. Or any suggestion on fixing the problem in 0.6.
Thanks

edit the profiles.xml file and remove the device description line from top of the samsung profile and then restart pc running serviio and try again.

The solution to his issue is simple and i posted it above you have to remove a line form the C/D profile as it designed for C series but causes issue with the D series.
Cerberus wrote:edit the profiles.xml file and remove the device description line from top of the samsung profile and then restart pc running serviio and try again.
and by having this with a D series device, they get very confused but when remove the resume function work again and you may also find if you dont remove this line that when browsing serviio you get kick back out to main menu, again once that line is remove that issue dissappears too.

Re: Samsung BD 6500 DLNA playback issues
Thanks Phil. I appreciate your help. Let me work on your suggestions and I'll get back to you. It would be great if I can add value to the Servio solution.
Re: Samsung BD 6500 DLNA playback issues
OK, I have tested further on this with D series.
It may be true that removing that profile line allows the Blue button to work correctly for Resume on C series BR players. Both users who posted had C series and reported the blue button did not cause a resume. Unfortunately neither of them has confirmed that this fix worked.
I can report that the removal of that profile line does nothing to help a D series BR player Resume simply because the D series BR player does not have the Blue button support for Resume that the C series player have. (The D series TV does correctly support the D button Resume function). I can also confirm as posted earlier that the D series (both TV and BR) does not offer a skip option for MPEG-2(VOB) files which was the original posters problem. I can also confirm that the D series BR does support a skip option for all other file types, however holding the direction buttons down only jumps in 10 second steps whereas holding the direction buttons down on the TV results in an accelerated step size.
I can also report that the D series BR does not support Blue button menu sorting as does the D series TV, however attempting to use that function on the D series with Servio, locks up the TV requiring a power down.
I hope that gives some clarity to the C/D series functionality.

i didnt need them to confirm it worked i already KNOW it work as i have a C series BD player.
erm yes it stop the directory browsing issue that causes D series to kick you back to main menu.
D button and blue button are the same thing, so that stement was incorrect.
VOB cant be skipped correct but that doesnt mean ALL mpeg2 wont skip
yep thats correct and the same as the C series devices.
This function is only for USB played files on both C and D series , There is clearly a bug in the TV firmware of the D series and thats why it crashes the TV.

Re: Samsung BD 6500 DLNA playback issues
Well, I'm just trying to learn and match my experience with my D series devices to the various infos posted on the forum. There seems to be a lot of misinfo and its hard to filter the wheat from the chaff. Since this thread was opened by a D series user with playback issues, and I believe all the following remain "open" issues with D series DLNA, I think it is appropriate to continue to address them here rather than open new threads for each of them.
Ok, but its always nice to see a confirmation of any users suggestion. I'm always suspicious when a suggestion is made to fix a problem but its validity is not confirmed by a second party even if the suggester believes that the fix worked for him. Didn't mean it as an insult.
I've never had a problem being kicked back to the main menu. I've looked in the forum and have not found a reference to this problem, so I'm unable to test/verify what you suggest, but I'd like to learn more. Can you point me? I'm also concerned that removal of these lines will negate their purpose that zip described as "The DeviceDescription block makes Serviio pretend it's the Samsung Server - to enable better integration (e.g. subtitles menu, resume function, Video Samsung menu maps to Serviio Video menu). Perhaps you could explain why their removal will not impact that integration.
I think you misread. Here's an expanded statement which will clarify.
"D series BR player does not have the Blue (D) button support for Resume that the C series player have. (The D series TV does correctly support the Blue (D) button Resume function)."
I'd also point out that the Samsung All-Share supports Resume on the TV but it does not support it on the BR, which I see as further support that the Blue (D) button Resume Support has been removed on the D series. Regardless, as you suggest we will take this to the Beta forum to see if you can help create a D series profile that will enable the "Blue(D) button" Resume on BR Players.
I'll stick by my statement, since I have been unable to find any MPEG-2 video file for which the Samsung D Series (both TV and BR) will display the skip option, including those that are transcoded by Servio to MPEG-2. See the previous thread on MPEG-2 Skipping and D series transcoding. http://forum.serviio.org/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=2714
I'd be delighted if you can add your knowledge to this and point me to one that will skip, and how to transcode so that the resulting files will skip.
We agree
I cannot agree with your contention that there is a firmware bug since the sort function works correctly on the D Series TV when displaying menus over DLNA using Samsung's All-Share software. It only hangs the menu when using Serviio. I believe I need to report this as a Serviio bug. What's your advice?
I hope you will continue to work with me to resolve these D series DLNA playback issues.
