Folder Grouping/Navigation

Hi,

Is it possible for Serviio to group folders into the first letter of their name.

For example I have in my Serviio library a folder that contains all my video files (M:\video) sorted into their own folders (M:\video\folder1\file1, M:\video\folder2\file2, etc). When I access the listing on my media player it can take a couple minutes to scroll through the list and select what I want to watch. If Serviio could sort the folders in my video folder and display them as being in a subfolder of its first letter, it would make navigating the list so much faster.

So instead of being presented with a structure similar to:
video\folder1\file1
video\folder2\file2
...

Serviio would present you with something similar to:
video\A\
video\B\
...
Video\F\Folder1\file1
video\F\Folder2\file2
...

I realize that I could incorporate this sort of sorting in my folder structure but I think that having an option to do this in Serviio would be a convenient thing. On my PC it is quite easy to view/navigate with everything in the one folder but unfortunately it just isn't as easy to navigate using Serviio when you have hundreds of items because you have to scroll through the full list from start to finish.

Cheers

Re: Folder Grouping/Navigation

the folder view is designed to follow the folder structure, by doing this we would break that. There are other views where you can achieve similar thing (Title, etc).

Re: Folder Grouping/Navigation

Thanks for the reply. Yes, you are right it would break the folder view.

What I'm proposing is not necessarily only going to apply to the folder view, it is just what I use so what I based my post around. It could be optionally applied to all the different categories that can be set.

I have looked at the other categories as you suggested and they would all pose the same problem I am already having without a possible solution. The problem being that the list is so big that scrolling through it using my media player takes far too long as I have to go one item at a time. If the list was broken up by the first characters, it would be so much faster to scroll through to entries that are at the end off the alphabet.

I hope I am making sense in what I am saying because I doubt I am the only one that has noticed this small but rather annoying problem.

Cheers
