Stuttering on KDL40-EX503

Hi guys..
I have just downloaded and installed Serviio a week ago and the whole principal of the system looks very good to me and does (potentially) what I want it to do.

Please excuse if these questions have been asked before, I have looked and cannot see it anywhere, but I am not technical, just an ordinary punter who bought a Sony KDL 40EX503 just over a year ago.

I recently purchased the Sony Wi-Fi dongle which gave me connectivity to Sony’s offerings of the internet. This dongle didn’t quite give me what I expected as I thought it might allow my TV to connect to my computer in order to access my downloaded video files, movies and home movies etc.

Then the Sony “How to” videos suggested I install Serviio and wow I was amazed that this was the apparent solution to this query I have had in my head for a while now.

My areas I am having difficulty in are :-
• When I play a video file it keeps “stuttering”, very intermittent and it seems to settle down when there is a scene change in the film. Is there any setting I need to alter to stop this stuttering as it makes the whole thing unwatchable really. I have assigned the video files to the VLC play but maybe if it were set to play through the Windows Media Player it may help ?
• When I look at the Serviio Console the status Tab is showing two items. first one has an orange indicator on the left and says
192.168.0.100 Unrecognised Device Sony Bravia TV
and the second one has a green light on the left and says :-
193.168.0.102 KDL-40EX503 Sony Bravia TV

• I usually switch the TV off by just putting it into standby, does this then kill the Wi-Fi connection from the dongle to the router? and therefore do I need to turn on the TV and leave it a while for the TV to talk to the router?

I am thinking that I may just uninstall the Serviio program altogether and start again and download it again.
Is anybody able to give me any assistance please. Be gentle with me please as I am not particularly technical and may not understand some of the jargon – thanks Roger

"Stuttering" is probably due to network low bandwidth...Wifi Dongle is not the best solution for HD movie streaming, hard wire is the best.
What is your movie resolution ? viewtopic.php?f=5&t=1123
What is the movie video bitrate ? viewtopic.php?f=17&t=2133

Check on Sony Network menu, that your TV device still have a fixed IP address."Select “Manual” to set the IP address manually"

Then clean the device list into Serviio Console, and restart the serviio service.

"standby" is a good used, automatic firmware updating is allowed in this mode.
For Wi-Fi connection, I don't know. But if IP Address is set "Manually", no need to talk to the router DHCP server.

Not sure... my Sony TV (hard wired connected) support firmware update during standby.

yer tv activates it again when it does a firmware check, bit like the Wake on lan function on servers. :)
