trampas wrote:I have a San Francisco phone running Android 2.2 Froyo (I think that this is the same as the Galaxy runs) and Serviio running on a Vista Business PC which normally has a Panasonic Viera as client. Using UPnPlay free from the Android market to act as the client s/w and MobiPlay, also free from the Market, as the player I can play XVid/DivX movies on the phone with no problems. The display on the phone is just like that on the TV with the choice of media type and then down through the folders to the list of files. I have not tried other formats yet. The profile being used is the default #1.

I can try others programs latter too, if we don't get to a conclusion, but the whole thing of using the default programs offered by Samsung is that every GalaxyTab and every GalaxyPhone user will be able to use serviio as its server, so I think this is better than finding another solution even if it is from market. The market programs can be charged latter, but the Samsung ones are free with every galaxy they sell.

I do think we should find another solution too for android users, since I'm a Android phone user myself (HTC HD2 with Android, works like a Nexus One), but for now I'm trying with Samsung Allshare program ;)

Thanks to everyone.

Illico, As soon as I can, I'll post some info about the files.

Yes, Tha Galaxy Tab does come with Android (mine 2.2, but theres a update dor a 2.3.3 version, just not for my model yet).
The problem I'm facing is not like yours. Sansung does have two excellent programs that come pre-installed in every Galaxy (phone or Tab) video player and AllShare(which is a DLNA player). All video files do play fine in Video Player and do work with AllShare too, but I'm having problems playing ONLY MKV files with AllShare and Serviio. Serviio work perfectly fine with AllShare with files like, mp4, avi and others. AllShare does play MKV files with the AllShare server installed in the windows PC.
The problem is that the PC version of AllShare does not work with windows 64bit, while Serviio works perfectly.

About the MKV files I'm trying to play... I have tried more than 50 files, all of them with different profiles and encoding. With and without subtitles, with DTS/Dolby Digital, with mp3 sound, with different qualities of video encoding, not even one worked with the TAB, BUT every single one works fine with my Samsung B650 TV set (using serviio).

I'll try to get the info for some of them and post here latter.

I don't think it is a file problem, but probably some miscommunication beetween the TAB and Serviio.

Greetings, Santroph.

i was actualy asking the question to the original poster and both items i sugested are FREE on the market so all android users can use them and not just galaxy users :) but it good to know that the allshare app work with most formats because that mean making a profile for it should be easy enough if we can transcode teh files to a format that it likes maybe mpg, zip and illico will eb able to help you test this :)

Re: Problems using Samsung Galaxy Tab with Serviio

Bad news guys, just bad news :(

I was trying to get some file specs from the mkv files, but my SSD hd in the main PC (the one used by serviio) just gone bad because of a power surge in my area.
I don't have any of the stuff I need in my notebook, and I can't give the info right now.

If that was not enough, I can tell you that the ALLSHARE samsung app does EXACTLY the same thing with mkv files (since I'm now using my note I installed AllShare in it because it is 32bit and now it Works). The error is the same, so it probably tells us that even with the Gtab telling us that it does accept MKV through DLNA, it probably doesn't.

The one thing that i'm really sad is that it plays really fine 720p mkv files when on internal memory and SDcard. And does tell us by the info I've got, that it does accept mkv through DLNA.

I don't have any log from AllShare, so I don't know what is happening, the other problem is that Serviio doesn't even write anything to the logs when I try to use mkv on it through Gtab.

Well, great news :)

After having tested all of the combinations beetween servers (AllShare and Serviio) and players (Samsung Video player, Vplayer and MoboPlayer) I have found something new.

Apparently the problem of not having the mkv beeing played is a matter of stupid combination.
Wherever I try to use the AllShare client in the GalaxyTab, it ALWAYS, and I mean ALWAYS calls the Samsung default player, no matter what you tell Android to use by default for a mkv file. And, of course there's the catch... Samsung default player, DOES NOT play mkv files THROUGH DLNA. Don't ask me why, but it works flawlessly with mkv files in the internal and external SDcards. That's why I have never figured it out before.

So using AllShare client to browse contents and starting files work with video files, but not with mkv ones (no matter which server or profile, AllShare or Serviio).

Using another DLNA client for Android, tried Skifta and Upnplay as pointed in the other thread, does have the same problem, it doesn't play using Samsung Player, BUT, they work in another way :)
Using UpnPlay, I can CHOOSE which player I want to use, and with that, (drums...) choosing MoboPlayer, IT WORKED :D HURRAY!!!! Choosing Samsung player it does not. (not supported error)
Using Skifta it did work too, but ONLY if I have another player installed, and it is kinda funny thing, since it doesn't let me choose a player, it simply uses Moboplayer skipping samsung.

But, it isn't perfect... I don't have subtitles :(
Not using Allshare (doesn't work with UpnPlay, but works fine with Skifta), not using Serviio (works fine with both DLNA clients). I'm using Mobo player as the other user said to do, and chosen the same settings, and tested others. It now does look like a Mobo problem, BUT the files and subtitles do play fine when in SDcard in the same player.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
After further testing, I can tell that subtitles are not working with any combination. Using Vplayer or MoboPlayer, no subtitles appear with any kind of movie files.
Not using AllShare/Serviio with Samsung Player/MoboPlayer/Vplayer with avi/mkv/mp4 files.
In any combination of the above (really did a lot of tests) no subtitle are shown :(
So I don't think anymore it is a Mobo player problem, but a generic and really difficult problem. :(
!!!!!!!!!!!!!UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Any other thoughts?

Sorry, for the long post, but I thought it would be good to give all teh info I had. ;)

Re: Problems using Samsung Galaxy Tab with Serviio

Just bought a galaxy tab and make few tests with serviio.

It's working fine for any SD source with upnplay and mobo or vplayer but can't get any HD content displayed smoothly...

I use 720p hdtv mkv for my tests. It connect but display one frame every 1/2 sec... and no sound...

Did you use a specific template for your tests ?

Thanks

i will do some more work on the Android profile once 0.6 is released currently its very hit and miss getting it to work.

Is there any news about Android profile (and playing .mkv with Allshare on Android devices like Samsung galaxy S or S2 or Tab)?

allshare is crap and not worth the bother.

nope i still go back to same combo i have in first place to get best results.

viewtopic.php?f=17&t=3465

and then no profile is required and everything you can throw at it plays.

Ok, thanks for answering.

The combination I tried was uPnPlay from Android (free) and MoboPlayer (free). It was working excelent... like you said: no profile is required and everything you can throw at it plays.

But then I read some posts here and I tried to change:

  Code:
 <MediaFormatProfile mime-type="video/x-msvideo">AVI</MediaFormatProfile>
  <MediaFormatProfile mime-type="video/x-matroska">MATROSKA</MediaFormatProfile>

in Generic profile (in profiles.xml) to:
  Code:
<MediaFormatProfile mime-type="video/x-msvideo">AVI</MediaFormatProfile>
  <MediaFormatProfile mime-type="video/x-msvideo">MATROSKA</MediaFormatProfile>

and now I can play .mkv file in stock Allshare app with stock video player on my Samsung Galaxy 2. 8-)

Of course it doesn't play subtitles (like with any other file (avi, mp4,...) but that doesn't bother me...

Now I'm just wondering, if that change will affect something else... like playing mkv files on my Samsung TV's in my house (which until that change haven't got any problems with playing all kind of movies...)?

if you use the setup i gave you nothing mkv files work perfectly or even the combo you gave yourself.

if you are so insistant on using the broken all share system you will need to build a new profile just for that.

OK, I just did that and it's working.
Can you tell me if it's in the 'rules'?

  Code:

Never mind i miss read your profile lol guess i need more sleep, basicly your profile will fail as serviio will keep reverting back to the genneric profile as the Detection section of your profile is missing and even more so you wont be able to get a detection for it as it will be different for evry users as it send teh phones name and not a standard string, mine announces "Cerberus's HTC HTC incredible S" so yours wont announce the same so detection would have to be tailored to each user, i have also notice that it take far to long to announce and serviio times out before it does, so you only ever get unknown device.

this is why i didnt go down this route and only recommend skifta and rockplayer as they work perfectly from the generic profile and support all file types.

Thank you for your detailed answer. I think I understand a little bit more....

But for me it works. I can watch all movies (.avi, .mkv, .mp4, mpeg,...), I can listen mp3's and I can watch pictures on my SGS2. Also my son's they can watch on theirs ( one SGS1 and one SGS2).
And also we tried at the same time. All three of us we can watch same movie (or different one) at the same time. I even tried to watch the same movie (.avi or .mkv) on my SGS2 and on Samsung TV (C series) in the living room and it was OK.

I put this profile at the end of profiles.xml and in Serviio console I found all IP's of our phones (my DHCP server always give the same IP's to the phones) and selected manually this profile for them.
So for me that is enough... it works. ;)

yep that will be fine till you either manualy refresh the library tab or you restart the pc running server, then profile will jump back to generic ;)
