"Playstation 3" profile - targetACodec="ac3"

Can you please tell me why the following is in the "Playstation 3" profile:

remux MKV with any video to MPEG2TS and possibly change audio to ac3, also AVI and FLV with H264
-->
<Video targetContainer="mpegts" targetACodec="ac3">

Zip,

DTS cannot be converted to AC-3 on a Playstation 3, period.

Once ffmpeg supports this feature, then I could see you putting the "targetACodec="ac3"" into the profile (as an option - incase someone wanted to use Dolby 5.1 instead of DTS 5.1)

Until then, why don't we take it out, instead of confusing the enduser.

As it stands right now, it makes it appear (to the enduser) that ffmpeg can "possibly" change DTS to AC-3.

Re: "Playstation 3" profile - targetACodec="ac3"

ok first calm down and dont abuse the dev that wont be tollerated here as he has much respected and does this for FREE.

Sections are NOT added to the profile for fun they are there because they need to be there, and to be very blunt most endusers wont even know what an XML file is let alone open it up.

Zip,

DTS cannot be converted to AC-3 on a Playstation 3, period.

transcoding is done LONG before it even get to the PS3 so thsi statement is just plan wrong.

Cerberus:

Shutup, pal. Are you Zip's lawyer? Just shut that pie hole in the front of your head. Do we understand each other?

Let me make it clearer for you (since you obviously need to be "schooled").

DTS wrapping is not supported by FFmpeg. Playstation 3 needs M2TS containers and AC-3 audio and the PS3 and Serviio server need to be connected to a gigabit switch in order to have decent Fast Forward and Rewind capabilities.

PS3 Media Server has no problems with transcoding DTS to AC-3 via MEncoder and TSMuxer. I've heard all the bullshit on this site about not wanting to pay fees for MEncoder, but why don't you and zip buy a PS3 and configure the profile correctly, instead of guessing.

Plus, why don't you try fixing the folder renaming themselves to "numbers" when you traverse them on a Playstation. This bug has been around for fucking ever.

It's not "memcoder", "Shit for Brains".

It's MEncoder.

Could you explain why Gigabit switch is needed? for my Sony Devices, 100Mbps is enough.

Use of ffmpeg, is the chose of Zip.
About PS3 profile, if you read here:
Serviio comes with some profiles per-defined but it really is up to the community to create their own configurations for different devices.
In fact, if you feel that PS3 profile should be enhanced, please use your energy to do it with us.

There are many things to look for only one man, Zip.
A ticket was opened about that.

First of all, control your language or you'll be banned.

I just tried this on a H264/DTS file and it worked:

  Code:
ffmpeg -i test.mkv -vcodec copy -vbsf h264_mp4toannexb -acodec ac3 -f mpegts d:\test.mpg

MEncoder is GPL and therefore tricky to distribute. Why don't you borrow me your PS3? I don't want to own one, I'm an XBox guy!

As this only happens on the PS3 it's difficult to reproduce. Again, why don't you learn Java, reengineer the code, fix it and provide a patch?

I'm not your bitch, your my bitch. When you have closed source code, then your my bitch and you work for me. Understood?

...and this is the biggest crock of shit I've ever heard:

Now ban me you lazy fuck. You remind me of one of those guys that lives in the UK and plays with an XBox (or with himself).

Wrong!

You wanna try again, cowboy? Maybe this time, you'll get it to work.

zip, how would I add the code (above) to the profiles.xml file? Is there a chance you could give me the exact syntax or could you copy and paste a Playstation 3 profile with it included?

Thanks in advance.

What do you need it for? This is what Serviio does when running a DTS file to PS3.
