No video on MKVs

I decided this is worth a new thread, looks like issue with stuttering MKVs is resolved, next issue is some MKVs play with no video, maybe issue with the resolution of the MKV ? Some play with no video at all whilst other have weird blocks of colour, is there a recommended open source reauthoring tools for MKVs ? Any idea would be appreciated on how to resolve this one ..

Am I right in thinking for MKVs the resolution must ve 1280 x 720 or 1920 x 1080 for them to play on the Bravia ? It seems most of my MKVs play with no video, I used Win FF to convert a MKV to MP4 with 1280 x 720 resolution and it plays fine .. if this is the case, any recommened software to change MKV resolution , I have tried handbrake but doesnt seem possible to change resolution. Thanks

I have found a great tool called RipBot264. If I reencode the video with 1920 x 1280, or 1280 x 720 then I can play them on my bravia, happy days !
