I got a Panasonic Viera TX-50G20E as many others here.

I noticed the DTS improvment from old version, works nicely now! ONE final thing to get rid of is the bad aspect ratio in mkv-transcoded movies :roll:, the picture is stretched to fit the screen, while orignial aspect would give black borders. I asked Viera support (arrogant basterds :) ) if anything could be done to correct this problem. Their solitary answer was simply "no". They should get aspect settings hardwareside imho. Are there anything to be done regarding this aspect-matter softwareside (serviio)?

There is already a bitbucket ticket for this to be added to a future version of serviio..

Any news about this problem? Will be this corrected?

very bad news :cry:

ps. for G30 TVs you should change profile to transcode lpcm audio. Have you plans to add easy profile editor with dropdown menu with presets for devices. For example in your standard profile for Panasonic there is no lpcm transcoding and G30 TV don't support this audio format.
Another thing maybe you can add info that added mkv file is with compression and should be remuxed?
Is there any plans to add better support for mkv files with more then one audio track and subtitles? In 0.52 release this function is just buggy.

profile are easy enough to edit at the current time just by changing teh profiles.xml file no special editor is required

if you mean header compression, then when FFmpeg supports it it will work with serviio

this is down to the renderer and not serviio

Re: Panasonic Viera and Serviio

after a while with installing serviio on Synology DS211j serviio now can be recognised by our Panasonic TX-L42E30B - although the synology has taken a long while indexing
however -

navigating to the shared folders the TV will show 'searching' and then after a while receive the message 'connection to server failed'

This happens with each of the 3 sharedfolders that we have , photo, video and music.

It seems that it all runs very slowly, how much memory does the NAS have?

Re: Panasonic Viera and Serviio

yep, so Serviio needs ideally 384MB, you can try changing the -Xmx parameter in serviio.sh to a lower value. More info in the comments here: http://pcloadletter.co.uk/2011/09/23/se ... y-package/

Re: Panasonic Viera and Serviio

I dont know how i got the handle 'streaming enthusiast'! - I've not actually had any streaming from Serviio yet!....

seing 'Steve's' comments, how do I "I’ve changed the option -Xmx384M in serviio.sh to -Xms80M -Xmx80M, i.e. I fixed the Java heap size to 80 MB"....

Out of interest i enabled the inbuilt media server on the Synology, and the TV recognises this, shows picures, plays audio and plays some of the videos...

Re: Panasonic Viera and Serviio

This morning i experimented and stopped the serviio server embedded on the DS211j from running, and installed serviio as server onto one of the Windows XP machines, and hey presto, the TV see this XP serviio server quickly, finds files, audio video and photo quickly and plays most of them, quickly and cleanly... (from first short look it seems excellent), so the issue with finding the files with the TV and slowness is the embedded NAS implementation of serviio)

I hoped that this NAS embedded solution would be quick and mean that i did not need to have a PC running, but it seems not.

And stopping the embedded serviio running has speeded up other access to unrelated data files on the NAS hugely too.....

When serviio was running on the NAS i did not see excessive (it was 40-60%) CPU or memory useage , but this is now showing as 20-40%

Re: Panasonic Viera and Serviio

trampas wrote:After various tests (see me on other topics) it seems that a really nice option for transcoding for Viera TVs would be to MPEG2-TS at 1280x720 with black bars if necessary to preserve the aspect ratio. The TV does not like some other video sizes such as 848x480 and assumes a 4:3 format expanded to 4:3 Full to make up 16:9. The black bars would be essential to preserve the aspect ratio as otherwise wide screen films (for example) would be stretched up and down. Should I add this as an enhancement request / new ticket?

I have a file with the following properties:
Video: MPEG4 Video (H264) 1920x816 23.98fps [Video]
Audio: Dolby AC3 48000Hz 6ch [Audio]

If I view this via Serviio on my Viera, it stretches the picture vertically. I want to manually transcode this and add black bars.

Can you give me the command line that Serviio generates for this transcode using ffmpeg (I haven't modified the profiles.xml)? Then I can modify the command to transcode including black bars, post it back here and then hopefully along with the code here this should help future versions of Serviio to support Panasonics better?

Thanks for creating Serviio - apart from the aspect ratio it makes viewing my own HD content on my Viera just so easy, and awesome!

Enable detaild logging file (see signature), then look at the line with ffmpeg command line used.

I already work for that with my Sony Bravia: viewtopic.php?f=11&t=2956

Re: Panasonic Viera and Serviio

Hi,
I'm newbie and I have been using Serviio for a couple of days, my TV is a TC-L32X30X (Viera), It works perfectly with the MKV files and almost all the files, but divx files (AVI), it seems the transcode options are not working properly and I would like to get your help in order to get a profile proposal in order to be able to see the Divx files.

I did g0t this message from ffmpeg:

"Seems stream 0 codec frame rate differs from container frame rate: 23.98 (65535/2733) -> 23.98 (959/40)"

Thanks in advance for your support.

Re: Panasonic Viera and Serviio

I've been reading all the threads about aspect ratio, and am wondering if this is something that is likely to be fixed. I've tried several x264 MKVs that are 1920 x 800, and they are being stretched on my Panasonic Viera. I believe these are only being remuxed by Serviio, so I'm not sure if it's even possible to fix this without a full transcode, or if it's just going to be the way it is with this TV.

I'm happy to test things out or provide more data if it would be helpful.

Thanks for a great product - this is the only thing I've found to be an issue so far!

Re: Panasonic Viera and Serviio

Actually, I just found a way to fix this, at least for some videos.

I just happened to try playing a 1080p 1920x800 x264 MKV via Twonky, which is not set up to do any transcoding. The video was delivered to the TV natively, and was letterboxed properly instead of being stretched!

After that test that indicates this file type doesn't need any transcoding, I went into the Serviio profiles.xml file and made the following change to the Panasonic Viera section:

<!-- Remux all h264 video to MPEG-TS stream -->
<Video targetContainer="mpegts">
<Matches container="avi" vCodec="h264" />
<Matches container="mp4" vCodec="h264" />
* <!-- <Matches container="matroska" vCodec="h264" /> -->
</Video>

After commenting out that line and restarting Serviio, the video was played in the correct aspect ratio.

It may be that older Vieras cannot play these files, but this brand new one does. Perhaps we need multiple profiles for the Vieras based on year? This also begs the question of what other lines may be able to be eliminated from the profile?

Re: Panasonic Viera and Serviio

I recently got my P#VT3. This is a Japanese TV (I live in Japan), but I believe its the exact same as the US VT30, just slightly different ports.

I've been unsuccessful in getting the TV to see Serviio. Its able to see my router (it can run its own DLNA server) and the Windows Media Player library.
Serviio shows the TV in the console and green lights it.
I have tried the: Remove TV from list, Save, Stop service (also stopped it in service.msc too), Start back up, refresh.
I have bound the server to the ethernet IP, since thats what goes to the router.
I have checked in UPnP tool and can see Serviio in the list, it also shows up in Network.
I don't have a 3rd party firewall.

There's no way to manually refresh the DLNA list in the VT3 so I'm not sure if its simply an issue that its slow to detect the server or what.

What else could I try? What logs can I check as well? What should I be looking for? Sorry, I don't know a whole lot about DLNA protocol.

Thanks.

EDIT: I want to add that I downloaded PS3 Media server and tried that and the TV sees that.

Problem Knowing How to Get Serviio to Recognize Files

I am a Serviio "newbie" who is hopeful that Serviio will be able to solve my problem. I purchased a Panasonic Viera Model No. TC-P60ST30 about a month ago. Until just a few days ago, I was able to view videos through the DLNA. However, whenever I try to watch one now, I get the message "Cannot Read File." Browsing through Google, I happened onto Serviio which I downloaded and installed. My TV does recognize that it is on my computer and lists various generic folders, e.g. Videos. However, when I click on those folders, nothing is there - no videos, no music, no photographs. I looked for a spot on the Serviio Console for a place where I could indicate which videos, photos, and music files I wanted uploaded (right word?) so that I could access them from the TV. I was unable to find anything of that nature although the service status indicates the program is running and my Panasonic Viera is listed as a rendering device. I'm not sure what the "Bound IP Address" is. It indicated that I was to leave it blank for default which I did.

Am I on the right track? Will my files upload if given the time or is there something else I need to do? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Sorry been a little busy.

Here's the log from my laptop. Its weird, but I put Serviio on my desktop computer and the TV sees that just fine. So I guess for now I'll use my desktop.
