USB not playing, DLNA without transcoding does play

Hi

I figures out that if you use TSMuxer to remux MKVs into M2TS it is a lot easier to stream the videos to the TV. Seems that it takes less CPU power and my old laptop can handle the transcoding with M2TS when it can`t with MKV.

I also checked that if I disalbe transcoding I can just stream videos from my laptop to TV if they have H286 and AC3 codec. No transcoding takes place and the vidoe plays just fine. But I also want subtitles so I was thinking of playing the video directly from the USB and a SRT file. But I get a playback error on TV.

If a file is playing perfectly via DLNA without transcoding why dceos it not play from USB? I know that Bravia does not support DTS audio but I did try another file with AC3 and that one did play directly from the USB as well.

Does anyone have any insight? The movie that did not play was in 1920x800 resoultion. Can it be a problem?

My TV is a Bravia KDL-40EX720.

Thanks

You might be better off getting a media player like a WDTV Live HD so you can play the files natively without transcoding and also get subtitles. Subs on Sony are quite small and with no control over them. A media box would give you a choice of font and size and position (depending on media box)

The renderer profile can be modified to only transcode what has to be transcoded to play on that renderer. If you can post the information on the videos that do no have to be transcoded (see signature) and the information on the renderer (see signature) the profile you are using can be tweaked to automatically not transcode the videos that the renderer supports.
