Playlists!

For video, Serviio just rocks, I'll have no complaints when you go commercial and start charging. (Though it would be nice if you could get rid of that stutter when mkv's start up.) But for music - c'mon guys, are you kidding? If you care about serving audio at all, how can you ignore all the requests for playlist support? (And from one coder to another, how hard is it really to add that layer?) Seriously, just how useful is audio playback when your only choices are either one song or one album? I have 2t+ of lossless, but with zero control over just what gets played, you may as well just stick to image/video and just not bother with audio. Music is *different*. It's POINTLESS without playlists - are you really ok with being lamer than WMP for music, when what it takes to make it *perfect* is so little extra effort? Really?

Re: Playlists!

It's planned. It seems most people are interested in video streaming so it's getting all the priority atm.

Playlists!

Zip maybe it is worth noting that this year was rich of networked players releases (e.g. Denon 720, sonata np30, pioneer, dlna capable avr's etc.) so the need for playlists may increase. I write this from my experience, as I bought one :)

Re: Playlists!

online streaming is still higher priority but i think from reading the beta information that playlists will be in the next release. :)

Playlists!

Great :) Is it possible to use the beta on Mac?

PS. Online streaming? Having this with playlists would be interesting ;)

PS2. In fact, the playlist feature should be supported by DLNA. I mean that DMC should be able to fully manage playlists on the server (DMS) side. If one will think this true, this is a must for audio. Imagine WinAmp without playlists. Or Windows Media Player without playlists.

Re: Playlists!

Great software, much more compact and efficient than the others.

My main use for the server is to get my large collection of audio files to my panasonic blu-ray player so it can be the source feeding my 70's vintage stereo gear as the output sensitivity is well matched for such old equipment. The resulting sound is much better than using my sound card DAC.

So yes, put me on the playlist wishlist too! :D

Re: Playlists!

It's very disappointing seeing support for many music format and still lack playlist. Stone age?

This is definitively a must have feature and I would pay for it. If it delays more, I will have to jump ship.

Re: Playlists!

Another request for audio playlist and information on the format they might appear in the next release.

By way of background I mirror my itunes music folder to my synology NAS, which has serviio running on it
I play a lot of our music on our Onkyo 609 amp (using an iphone/ipa app called Oremote).
With that app I can happily see the serviio DLNA including its currently most useful tag - album artists.

It would be WONDERFUL if you adopted the itunes playlist format and I could see those playlists when browsing from the Onkyo

Many thanks for the great product. I've tested it for video on my bravia and it works fine but at the moment most of my video needs are served by plex. With audio, sometimes I prefer not to fire up my htpc or the tv and just feel the music around me without distraction

[Partially solved] Re: Playlists!

I've developed a playlist plugin. Take a look at http://forum.serviio.org/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=6022!
