D series Player BD player firmware finally updated

Samsung seems to have finally fixed the network disconnect problems with their low end BD 5300 and 5700 players. The latest software update was just released. If you can get your player online to do the update :? If not then you will need to download it and use usb or a disk. Be aware that stream breaks that occur with streaming live content still will cause the player to disconnect Serviio. But at least the player will not constantly lose the network connection now.
If it ain't broke....just let me have a crack at it!

Do you know if the software fits to BD D5100 too? I have the same problem. Thank you very much.

Most likely not, as the 5100 only has BD live function without DLNA capabilities and no Smart Hub or Allshare. If you cannot get it on the net with cat 5 then there is no way to check for updates except through the Samsung web site. http://www.samsung.com/us/support/downl ... s/BD-D5100
The latest firmware for your player is dated Sept 6 2011.. so if you have an older version that will not connect then you can still update it through usb or a cd after downloading the firmware from the link I provided.

The 5300 has SmartHub and Allshare. Whereas the 5700 has SmartHub, Allshare and built-in wifi. The 5300 and 5100 are essentially the same device.... I do not know if there is a way to force the 5100 to load the software for the 5300 device or if it is even possible. They might require different Realtek chipset drivers, so faking the name and loading the firmware might be possible but it might also brick your player.

So a dlna server like Serviio will not work with this device. Though knowing Samsung they will include a netflix interface, so it would be a small step to load a DLNA receiver like Allshare in the software. The low end LG BD players are the same they will do netflix but not DLNA.

Most likely updates to the wireless_tools gui and some corrections to the network stack. There seems to be no added features though the general speed of the built in Youtube app has greatly improved. So my guess is that the pressure that the big box stores put on Samsung after having a tonne of these units come back after Christmas forced their hand. Seems that at least now the device will stay on the net with either wifi or wired connection. Boot up time is really improved as well it is now down to 4-5 seconds. I suspect that they updated ffmpeg as well as the speed at which the player reads mp4 off the net is now snappy as well.

BusyBox had several updates last month so I would guess that the kernel is different as well. The Dailymotion app is still a dog however.

the version is -1022.0 for either the 5300 or 5700 mine is labelled BSP-D5700ZC-1022.0
