any easy freeware gui software you can recommend to do this? I just tried to do mkv>avi+srt or mp4+srt and both times they're unplayable and only avi is playable in vlc on PC (used xvid4psp latest build).

zip,
I have minidlna running on my router and it sends srt subtitles included on mkv files to my Panasonic Viera GT30. They are shown at option menu. So I was wondering why not serviio could do the same with external srts.
Can I help providing any dump/data to help implement this feature on Viera Profile?
Have some bluray rips encoded with x264 HP L@5.1 that stutters badly on my tv. It seems Serviio with transcoding gonna solve my problem. But i really need subtitles
thanks.

When you say included you mean inside mkv container or external srt file ? I believe your GT30 can only handle external subs with avi files, for mkv you have to remuxe them inside the container.

You have to set profile level to 4.1 or transcode, Panasonic stutter when profile level is greater than 4.1.

Candoris wrote:Thanks for such a quick response! I'll test this more, for now I only tried with a few files. If this is definitely the case, can serviio be made to present mkvs (and maybe mp4s) as avi files to viera tvs? I know there is a difference in the container file structure, but maybe a conversion can be handled serverside on the fly? it shouldn't be too intensive, as nothing is being transcoded... sorry if I'm talking rubbish.
Your TV does not handle external srt files for mkv, you have to remuxe them with the srt. But, for avi files there's no problem with external srt.

Sure.. but unfortunately serviio do not support that as minidlna does.

Actually that information is not accurate. I Have some samples at 4.1 that stutter as well. I think there is a feature of High Profiler that is not supported properly on G30 Series. I have not tested but I bet it could be CABAC.
Gonna make further tests to confirm.

1) You're saying that you have a sub track inside mkv and it does not show ? Please post mediainfo of the file.
2) Please post mediainfo of the file, I bet on reframe limit.

Sure.
What does 'reFrame' mean?
Thanks.
Re: Panasonic Viera G30-subtitles don't appear/load
Please post the 2nd mediainfo in text output like the 1st.
When playing the 1st file have you go to options menu and activate the subs ? Cause that should work.. I can see subs in mine playing mkv files with Serviio.
ReFrames - the number of reference (preceding) frames.

It did not work on last test.. gonna test again with different srt files muxed.
I have some samples encoded as 4.1. One with 4 refFrames running ok but one with 6 refFrames that stutters (see above info files).
Concerning performance and quality what would be the max refFrames for G30?
Thanks.
Re: Panasonic Viera G30-subtitles don't appear/load
I'm still testing and trying to create a new profile for our Panas.
Check here http://wiki.serviio.org/doku.php?id=get_h264_level
Your video is 1920x800 with 6 reframes, so 1920x800x6/256=36000 which gets level 5 profile and cant be played. I'm working with other users and we believe that the limit is in memory. Once we figured this out we can create a new profile which sets to transcode the ones our tvs cant natively play.
But I remux all my files in order to get subtitles and no problem with that. Try latest version of mkvmerge and disable header compression - http://wiki.serviio.org/doku.php?id=header_com

I've got some useful information that made some obscure things clear. I'm gonna check it all.
Thanks a lot.

Hi all,
I am a new member and had my G30 for almost 2 months now.
Just wanted to share that for me so far subtitles have not been a problem - like - avi+srt and mkv+srt remux - played ok (even encoded with UTF-8 for cyrillic support)
Regards,
Viktor

Re: Panasonic Viera G30-subtitles don't appear/load
Hi there!
First of all thank you for Serviio, a great media server. Still, I got the same problem with my Panasonic Viera P50GT30. If I play avi+srt, the subtitles are shown. MKV plays well, but does not load the subtitles. I've tried MKVmerge, and set all the tracks compression on NONE as I've read on Wiki. The subtitle and MKV were merged with success, because on my computer they play well, but on the TV there is still no subtitle. Are there some more settings to do in MKVmerge? What I am doing wrong?
Thanks for your help!

Ok, I've found the problem. After muxing the mkv+srt, turn off the transcoding and all works great!
