Re: MKV files stutter.

I was mistaken, it initially only showed Serviio as type "Network" but once I started playing something and got back to the main menu it showed it as "AllShare" as well. But still I was able to play the same files fluently with TVMobili which stuttered sometimes (both audio and video) using Serviio. I have a 3.4Ghz quad-core iMac and wired network (Gigabit, but probably the TV only supports 100 Mbit) so I don't think that's the issue here. Serviio isn't even transcoding when it occurs.

Re: MKV files stutter.

you could try to increase network socket buffer (http://www.serviio.org/index.php?option ... icle&id=43)
Default is 64536.

Re: MKV files stutter.

serviio.log reports default is 65535 bytes (that is 2^16-1)

Have tried:
-Dserviio.socketBuffer=32267 (2^15-1)
-Dserviio.socketBuffer=131071 (2^17-1)
-Dserviio.socketBuffer=262143 (2^18-1)

Change of buffer size is reflected in serviio.log upon start, but mkv stuttering problem remains for all buffer sizes above.
Does this setting solve it for anybody else?

Re: MKV files stutter.

As a new owner of a PN51D550 I have been following this thread since ditching the Allshare junk for Serviio after a day of messing with it.
I also have stuttering with mkv's and I am using a wired connection.
One thing I am wondering is what is the spec of the LAN port of the TV? I cannot find it anywhere and my gigabit switch does not differentiate 100 or 1000 by LED link color, only 10 shows orange.
Interestingly, I finally plugged in my BD-D5500 that I bought with the TV, and when I play the same mkv files via the same wired connection on that, they play flawlessly. Not sure of the LAN port speed on that either.
Just wondering if the LAN port has anything to do with it.

Wow check this out:

●● Sound or video may not work if the contents have a standard bitrate/frame rate above the compatible Frame/sec listed in the table above.
●● If the Index Table is in error, the Seek (Jump) function is not supported.
●● You may experience file stuttering while playing a video through a network connection. for PDP 550 Series and above
●● The menu may take longer to appear if the video’s bit rate exceeds 10Mbps.
●● Some USB/digital camera devices may not be compatible with the TV.
●● Video content can not be played, if there are many contents in one file.

so they expect this behavior?

Re: MKV files stutter.

I think you guys might be on to something with the WiFi concept, I streamed a 720p .mkv file from my friend's MacBook Air (using the same network and distance that didn't work on my MacBook Pro), and it worked more or less without any problems. There's a lot of huge .mkv files I'm unable to remux with iFlicks, so I would be very happy to find a solution :) Unfortunately the Air doesn't have an ethernet connection so I'm unable to try such.

I should note that when the audio skips on .mkv files it doesn't show up as "Buffering" at the top right corner, which it should when there is not enough bandwidth.

Re: MKV files stutter.

Hello all,
I can confirm the stuttering problem on a UE32D5000. Also, the problem goes away when connected over wireless.
Right now I have a g router, the playback is ok, but the loading of the menu and fast forwarding in mkv is really slow compared to 100mbit lan. I was wondering if I upgrade to 300mbit n wireless, would it be faster or there are other issues with wireless which cause the performance issues?

tv only has 54mbit wireless, so faster router will help between pc and router but not between tv and router.

Actually, the TV is connected to the router with a cable. So the wireless part would be between the pc with serviio and the router.

then faster router would be good, but still wont solve your stutter issues, with mkv files.

Cerberus wrote:There is ongoing issues with ffmpeg and MKV files that the team over at ffmpeg are working on (stutter, not playing) and from the daily builds we can see they are starting to work through them and fix but theres nothing we can do from a serviio point of view until they fix the issues, there are now later daily builds availible that may fix your issues, impore on it but you would have to try them.

The stuttering is present even if I disable transcoding, and it goes away when the serviio server is on wireless.

@eclp - nope.

@ madman10

File 1 - possiblely bad encoder setting cause file looks fine try remuxing it with MKVmerge.

File 2 - update ffmpeg to latest daily build and try again.

serviio doesnt have an issue with MKV its ffmpeg that has the issue atm as i stated above.

sunnyday wrote:
Suddenly I remembered I have got a WiFi USB Stick in a drawer in the basement, I inserted it into my Server (the one that almost every mkv stutters) let i plug'and'play-install and disabled the wired NIC. Turned on TV and: No Stuttering anymore!

The only conclusion I draw is:
Samsung TV UExxD500x stutters for one reason or another when streamed via wired network. Replacing wired NIC with wireless card seem to be the cure.
(As previosly been suggested by both zip and zotune)

Summary of my testing:
Win7 64/Serviio 0.6.1/D-Link DGE 528T Stutters severly on most mkv
Win7 64/Serviio 0.6.1/TP-Link WN321G No stutter
Win7 64/Serviio 0.6.1/Atheros AR9002WB-1NG No stutter (apart from single occasion approx 7 seconds in from beginning of movie)
All computers and TV are communicating via Linksys WRT54GL router running Tomato 1.28 firmware.

Streaming-wise, the only drawback of WiFi is it takes a little longer to launch a new clip compared to a wired connection. Perhaps a little slower FF/REW response.
But of course I would prefer wired NIC, for higher speed/better connectivity at other protocols than DLNA.

I can confirm this 100%:
Realtek Nic: Wired from PC (Win7 64/Servioo 0.6.2) to router to UE32D5005 => Stutters
Atheros Nic: WiFi from PC (Win7 64/Servioo 0.6.2)) to router but wired from router to UE32D5005 => no stutter

Same issue as synnyday, dysje, pluhi, zotune and atika has explained in this thread.

I have the same stutter (in wired system) with theese DLNA mediaservers:
- Serviio
- Samsung Allshare
- Synology Diskstation
but as other have mentioned ( noise, pertercv) is TVMOBiLi playing the MKV files WITHOUT stutter on UEXX5000

It would be interesting to hear if anybody have a Samsung D-series UExx500x, who can handle MKV files without stutter with Servioo, in a wired system.
Or if you have the same problem, please write your experience about it in this thread.

Re: MKV files stutter.

can someone capture packets of browsing to the file and few seconds of playing in tvmobili? it's possible they're using other mime-type that stream the file differently.
