JAVA causing blue screen isssues in Win 7x64

Hello,

I recently found out about Serviio and wanted to test it instead of using Samsung's Allshare, which I find too heavy and slow. However, after switching to Serviio, windows has ended up with two blue screens, which is annoying. After the second blue screen I enabled detailed logging and did one more run with the movie, which unfortunately crashed the PC again after ~15-20 min.

Since the logs are larger than the maximum size allowed on the forum as attachment I had to put them into my public DropBox-folder

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/13366636/serviio.log
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/13366636/serviio.log.2
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/13366636/serviio.log.3

I have Serviio 0.6.2 installed, with the latest FFmpeg 64-bit build static (ffmpeg-git-6833fe4-win64-static.7z).

Is this a bug in Serviio, and is there anything I can do to get this to work? I have to say that my impression of Serviio otherwise is quite good, but if it causes my PC to crash all the time then it won't be of any use; so hopefully someone can help me out.

Edit: Posted in this section because the TV is a Samsung D-series, but might be that it should have been posted in another forum (if so, can a mod please move it?).
best regards,
d

Re: Serviio causes blue screen in win7x64

i have never heard of serviio causing this and i suspect its not actualy cause it as such, first thing i would do is check your hard drive for errors and then check that you dont have any faulty memory modules, serviio uses alot of resource when its indexing the library and also in burst as it transcodes a file to be play and thats is more than likely what your seeing, i have also seen failing power supplies and motherboards do this to but that tends to onnly be extreme cases.

p.s. also check the temp of your pc as overheating can cause blue screens too.

Re: Serviio causes blue screen in win7x64

Thanks for your answer. I'v checked the hard drives for errors now, and they seem ok. Haven't checked the drive for which Windows and Serviio is installed at, but I'll do that as well. And how can I check for faulty memory modules?

What I find strange is that streaming with Samsung's AllShare have worked fine for a while now, with all sorts of different video formats. From my impression of the two softwares it seems likes AllShare uses more resources than Serviio, but I can of course be wrong. But if that is the case, then it's strange that I haven't had a single crash while streaming with AllShare.

After the last blue screen before I posted here last night I also checked the temperature of the laptop and it didn't seem to be heated at all (i.e. the areas that tend to get heated were not much hotter than with regular load on the CPU).

Best regards,
D

Re: Serviio causes blue screen in win7x64

Hi,

I'm having the same problem.
I've uploaded 6 minidumps and 2 memory dumps.
The download link is http://wtrns.fr/_1zEm1tP1DQumec
I've used WeTransfer.com as upload service.

I hope these dumps will help you to locate the issue.

At the moment I disabled the serviio service and I only start it when needed.

If any of you are using Norton Antivirus or Norton Internet Security then temporarily disable the antivirus auto-protect (real time scanning) and see if your systems still blue-screen.

I'm using Microsoft Security Essentials (v2.1.1116.0) so I think we can exclude Norton.

I only have Microsoft Security Essentials running all the time. Also have MalwareBytes, but I had it disabled the last time I experienced the crash, so it can't be related.

If the online privacy statement is not available, please read our privacy statement offline:

Seems like the dump-files from the previous crashes also were stored in the same directory, so added all the files to a zip and uploaded (*.zip attachment). Hope someone can help me figure out where this comes from.

Best regards,
dm

Any news on this topic? Were the dump files useful?
Today I had another BSOD during playback on my samsung UE40D6530. (It happens at random so not always during playback)

Re: Serviio causes blue screen in win7x64

I am sorry had other things going on. I am looking at them now, but it has been a awhile since I looked at one. Here is a forum post that helps alot with figuring out what the bsod is caused by. It looks like it is hardware related, but I am very rusty on these. You might want to post on one of the two forums below.

Re: Serviio causes blue screen in win7x64

Hi,

I've created a topic on the technet forum. (http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itproperf/thread/6007d0ae-15fc-4124-a79e-49e2f19d0bb7)
They also conclude that the problem is caused by ServiioService.
They also don't deliver any further support since this problem is caused by a third party application.

Do you guys have any suggestions on this issue?

Re: Serviio causes blue screen in win7x64

Can you please enable detailed logging (see signature) stop serviio. Rename existing serviio.log file and restart serviio. The next time you get the BSOD attach the serviio.log file here.

Re: Serviio causes blue screen in win7x64

its so not gunna be a software issue or Hundreds of people would have complained by now, it more like you have a hardware issue that need finding. looking at the dump it again goes to a memory module issue.

Could be a problem with memory but still must be an explanation why the issue isn't occurring if I disable the serviio service.
Since last month I disabled the service and only enable it when needed.
I never have crashes when it is disabled. If i enable it, 5 times out of 10 my PC crashes during playback of a movie.
Before, even when idle my PC crashed at random when the service was enabled.

exactly it use a section of memory not used by other none memory intensive processes and the random crashing was prolly serviio checkking for updated files in your library.
