your welcome we hope to be able to solve this issue soon but we are reliant on ffmpeg for this and they dont support it yet, and currently no there is no donations, not sure why but that was ZIPs choice.

Re: Panasonic Viera and Serviio

@cerberus: I believe that Voodooo had a partial workaround for the SRT issue.

Does not work for me (my set was purchased in the US), but I believe his way worked for sets which have some extra menu options to turn on subtitles, which my set is sadly lacking... :(

Perhaps we should start a new thread for this?

It is possible to play subtitles with mkv files, serviio and panasonic. Subtitles must be internal, and file not to be transcoded.

no not on ALL panasonics plus the have to be natively supported mkv as they wont work if file is transcoded/remuxed.

Re: Panasonic Viera and Serviio

This is my first post here.
so hi everybody,
first of all thank you Serviio! And now my problem.
I own Panasonic G30E model, and as i found out my tv won't play srt subtitles with mkv files.
So i tryed to mux them with the movie and then tryed to play the movie. I used MKVmerge for that.
And after i mux the titles, the new file that is created won't play in serviio.
Old one plays without any problems but the new one wan't.
Before muxing i did the trick with the Extra Optinos and Cues in MKVmerge (set for all files to NONE) but the movie is stil not playable.
Are there any other options in the MKVmerge that i need to change.

Header removal compression not supported.

1. Download MKVToolnix
2. Install MKVToolnix then go to where you install MKVToolnix (usually C:\Program Files\MKVtoolnix)
3. run MKVMerge GUI
4. Find the MKV file you want to remux. Load it into MKVMerge GUI
5. Once loaded, click on the Video layer, click on the Extra Options tab and change the Compression to "NONE"
6. Click on the Audio Layer, click on the Extra Options tab and change the Compression to "NONE"
7. Set Output Filename accordingly
8. Start Muxing

Re: Panasonic Viera and Serviio

Well i was calabrating too soon. When i mux the subtitles, they play well but the new movie file that is created after mux process is twitching (i hope i used the right word for that :D ) . It is not playing flawless.
The same thing happens when i play it on my Pc, so i think it's related to the MKVMerge. Is there any other option in the MKVMerge that i need to check/uncheck to awoide this problem?

I also noticed that i don't need to mux subtitles when i play DivX movie.
All i have to do is to rename the SRT file and give it the exact name as the movie, put them in the same folder, run the movie, and then press the OPTION on the TV remote, and choose subtitles and then i have the srt subtitle witch can be shown on the Tv. Only thing with this is that the subtitles are small, and it's little bit hard to read them. I don't have any option on the Tv to make them larger. I own tx-p42g30e (Europe) model.
When i mux the same title the font is "normal" sized, but when i play them without muxing thay are to small. And that probably means that the Serviio shrinked them. Are there any optin that i can change to make them larger?
I play all my movies without transcoding.

This is the info how to play muxed subtitles (if someone needs it at all :D )
I run the movie and all i need to do is press the OPTION button on my remote and in the menu that appears i can choose subtitles and after that in new menu i have ali muxed subtitles in my movie. In my case i had two, English and Croatian, and they booth worked well. Font size is ok. They are not shrinked. And the Croatian special alfabet signs (šđčćž) are encoded right. No problems there.

Re: Panasonic Viera and Serviio

When you mux the subtitles in with the video, in MKVMerge you can select a different character set. This is in the tab for "Format Specific Options". You would click the SRT track, then select the Charset from the dropdown menu. Not completely sure if that will make them bigger, but may be worth a try.

Panasonic does not seem to support external SRT for MKV files. I think voodooo posted about that. At least in Europe you have DivX and you can select subtitles. My set is theoretically capable of subtitles, but the option to select them was deleted in the US model along with DivX (!) :x

Hello there,

To izzy007 or voodoo : did you do anything special to make SRT files appears through the 'option' key of the remote?

I have a TX-P50VT30E I brought in France, and I've tried everything but nothing works: disable transcoding in Serviio, save SRT file in plain text (it's needed to get subtitles on usb keys), shorter directory name, shorter file name, but subtitles option desperately shows 'No subtitles'...

Re: Panasonic Viera and Serviio

Sorry for double posting, but I'll post here two in case anyone notice my problem faster:

"Hi there!

First of all thank you for Serviio, a great media server. Still, I got the same problem with my Panasonic Viera P50GT30. If I play avi+srt, the subtitles are shown. MKV plays well, but does not load the subtitles. I've tried MKVmerge, and set all the tracks compression on NONE as I've read on Wiki. The subtitle and MKV were merged with success, because on my computer they play well, but on the TV there is still no subtitle. Are there some more settings to do in MKVmerge? What I am doing wrong?

Thanks for your help!"

Anyone managed to play mkv with subtitles on Panasonic Viera?

It's probably because you're using profile that remuxes mkv back to mpegts and loses the subtitles stream. Some other Viera profiles (that support MKV) should just work even with transcoding enabled.
