Panny GT30 and MKV: why?

Hi everybody,

first of all thank you Serviio! :D

Now my pain: the MKV on my Panny GT30  Really i don't understand why some mkv are managed natively from my Panny and others are transcoded through Serviio.

Obviously Serviio isn't the problem but the solution, in any cases i don't understand what are the parameters into mkv file that create the problem in my Panny.

Please below you can find the report from MediaInfo application about the MKV properties, the first report is a MKV natively read from my TV, the second report is about a MKV that the Serviio transcode. The question is WHY? Which are the differences?

Anyone can help me?

thx
Freeman

Re: Panny GT30 and MKV: why?

you answered your own question :S the second file is transcoded cause your panny does not support it in native format.

i would but i dont see the second file, there are many post here on why it happens, the most common reason being profile level being to high.

The normal user can be safe in the knowledge that it wouldnt do it unless it was needed as i made teh panasonic profile and have extensively tested them ;)

Re: Panny GT30 and MKV: why?

This is the second file (i believe that it has been truncated in my first post, i'm sorry ;) )
I agree with you about the panasonic profile intensive testing, but the serviio profile is necessary only for streaming, my question is about the native reading (and how serviio understands when the streaming is needed).

thx

Serviio doesnt i tell it what to do with each file, in the profile, i know from experience and from look at sink information, what a device supports then i tell it via the profile if i want it to transcode a file, and serviio knows if it isnt in the list of transcode requests to just send the file as it is to the player.

FYI - the second file is REMUXED because it has DTS audio as first track if you used mkvmerge to remove that first DTS track the file would not be REMUXED and would play natively. :)

not all models support DTS and ones that do some dts file play other refuse, so they are all remuxed for consistancy

Maximum bit rate : 40.0 Mbps

Seems to be a very bitrate, not sure if your device renderer can support this.

this is the bitrate related to last file, but the last file is played natively.

Maybe you can just point him to the threads where you were working on the profile? or OP can try to search.

That second file should play. Try to remove unneeded audio and sub just to clean it. Does it say format no supported or it stutter ?

Hi guys,

this is the point of my analysis, the target is to understand the mkv structure played natively on my Panny GT30 (in a nutshell the transcoding option must be unchecked).

In my previous post i've included the Mediainfo information about Rio.mkv file. This file needs the transcoding but i can play it natively if:

- remux the file with "disable header removal compression for audio and video tracks defaults" option checked in mkvmerge;
- REMOVE the subtitles tracks IF THESE ARE GREATER THAN 8. :D :D

I tried it with other mkv files where previously transcoding was required.

Now i have another little problem: if i try to play forward or backward function during mkv play, this don't work. Anyone have any idea?

thx
