Unreadable files?

Hi,

I'm using Serviio on my Sony BDP-S850 and it works pretty good so far with a little tweaking, but there are still some files I can't play ... I have for example this mkv that cannot play, but another one pretty similar will play perfectly (both are OK on my computer). Here are the two files mediainfo:

This one doesn't work :

1-Files are not similar, will explain
2-Do not compare your computer (VLC, Windows Media Player) and your Sony device. A computer use software library very permissive, and your device use hardware decoding with very limited format.

See following differences

The Big difference is the AVC Profile Level:
- 1280x720, 11 Refframe => Profile level 5.1 not supported by the Sony device => must be transcode
- 1280x720, 1 Refframe => Profile level 3.1 supported by the Sony device in native format.

You don't have to edit the plyaer profile.

The first file should be detected as not compatible AVC Profile level => transcode to MPEG2VIDEO over MPEGTS stream
The second is detected as compatible => delivered in native format.

Could you enable detailed logging file (see signature link) and check if first file is transcoded?

Re: Unreadable files?

I enabled it and can confirm the file is delivered in native format. Here is the log section when reading the first file, and the second : http://pastebin.com/RxK26p2Y

Re: Unreadable files?

The profile level detection did not work.
Could you remove this file from library, then re-add it, and check the log file?

Re: Unreadable files?

Don't have any idea? It really looks like the Sony profile is not correct for this profile level

This file is stored in library with good profile level.

So this file must be transcode to mpeg2video into mpeg2ts stream.

Check the detailed logging file when you start to play this file, and find the ffmpeg command line used.

This seems to be one exchange between the server and the client. I don't see any ffmpeg command line, but I see the "Delivering file '300 (2006).mkv' in native format" line, which indicates the transcoding doesn't work...

If you look at profiles.xml

  Code:
<Profile id="10" name="Sony BD Player / SMP" extendsProfileId="1">
...
         <Video targetContainer="mpegts" targetVCodec="mpeg2video" maxVBitrate="17000" targetACodec="ac3" aBitrate="320">

            <Matches container="matroska" vCodec="h264" profile="high" levelGreaterThan="4.1" />
...
         </Video>
...

This file must be transcode to mpegts/mpeg2video/ac3 !!
Is it a serviio BUG ? don't know.

Zip, any idea about that issue ?

Do you have transcoding enabled in the console?

Re: Unreadable files?

I had a similar issue last night with my Sony BD-S580 -- I had three files that wouldn't play, saying they were unreadable. I was in the process of enabling debug (the only thing in Serviio that I changed) so that I could post some more robust information, but when I tried to play the files a few moments ago, they all played fine. I knew this wasn't an issue with Serviio/compatibility because the files all played fine from a separate instance of Serviio -- I'm moving Serviio to an old Windows XP box that I'm going to dedicate for that purpose. I had tinkered with profiles.xml on my old installation, but comparing between my old and new installations I thought the files should play fine (all were AVC High/4.1 with DCS audio). I was able to play AVC/4.1 with AC3 audio, so I thought it might have something to do with that).

Anyway -- My best guess is that profile detection wasn't working (last night, temporarily) and that the files weren't being transcoded.

As an aside -- I'm trying to optimize this old desktop "Serviio server" as best I can. Will Serviio's ffmpeg processes be detected as foreground "apps" or background services? I'd like Windows to give them as much processing power as they need, since I know I'll need to transcode somewhat frequently.
