TV Shows not appearing in Series Folder

Hi, I'm running Serviio 0.6.2 on my Synology NAS to my PS3.

I have an issue where all of my TV shows will not appear in the Series folder. However, they do not appear in the Movie or Titles folder. The only two places they appear are in the Folders folder, and in the Unknown subfolder in the Genre folder. So at least Serviio recognizes that they are not Movies.

I have all my videos arranged in a XBMC structure -- movies and TV shows are in their own folders with the .nfo file, jpg, etc. And Serviio is set up to read the XBMC files for Metadata.

Here's an example of the folder and naming structure: /volume1/video/TV SHOWS/The Wire/The Wire - 4x05 - Alliances.avi

I've renamed all my TV shows with FileBot, Serviio is set to scan the folder, and I've rescanned the library several times over the past several days. But yet my TV Shows will not appear in the Series folder.

I'd also love to post my log file... I can view it on my NAS menu, but it won't let me cut and paste it or download it! Any idea how to get it?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Re: TV Shows not appearing in Series Folder

the online db might have been down. Try to name a file using like this: The Wire S01E01.avi

Re: TV Shows not appearing in Series Folder

I renamed each series as you recommend and did a force refresh and rescan. The TV shows still do not appear in the Series folder. I checked the log, and it did not report any errors. For example, for TV Shows it says:

2012-03-25 15:27:38,608 INFO [LibraryUpdatesCheckerThread] Updated 'The Office (US) S01E05' (/volume 1/video/TV SHOWS/The Office (US)/The Office (US) S01E05.m4v) in Library. And so on for each show file.

Is it maybe reading the tvshow.nfo file wrong? Should I remove that from each of the TV show folders and make Serviio do its own online scan for TV shows?

Re: TV Shows not appearing in Series Folder

So I've renamed my shows as you suggested, and even removed the tv.nfo XBMC and .jpg files, but they are still are not showing up in the Series folder. In fact, Serviio did not even pull images for them. Yet they do not appear in the movies folder, so Serviio knows they are not movies, but it still does not recognize that they are TV Shows. Any idea what else I can do to get Serviio to recognize them correctly?

Re: TV Shows not appearing in Series Folder

Solved! So I tried a different XBMC media manager to re-scrape my TV shows and that seemed to do the trick! They are now showing up in the Series folder. (I was using Vimediamanager on the Mac, and tried Media Central on Windows instead). Thanks again for your help.

Were you using online sources or XBMC nfo extractors originally?

Re: TV Shows not appearing in Series Folder

I'm having a similar issue with TV shows not showing up in under the Series. The folder structure for my TV series is E:\Media\TV Shows\Series Name\Season XX where Series Name is the name of the series (eg Game_of_Thrones, Alcatraz, etc) and XX is the season number (ie 01, 02, etc).

Each episode is named SxxEyy - Episode title.ext, where XX and YY are the season and episodes numbers respectively, and ext is the file type (ie .mkv, .avi, etc).

I use Media Center Master to generate the meta data for each series and episode in XBMC format. It generates a tvshow.nfo file under the Series Name directory and then individual files for each episode in the Season XX folders in the format SxxEyy - Episode title.nfo (ie name matches the video files).

Under the metadata tab in the serviio console, I've configured serviio to use XBMC .nfo files to obtain descriptive content.

Is there a certain way I have to name the .nfo files or the episodes to get serviio to recognise the files as a series?

No, as long as the nfo file states it's an episode. You can enable detailed log to see what's happening. Make sure you have file updates scanning on. You could also force it by clicking Refresh video metadata button.

Would the <xbmc_compatible_nfo> headers inserted by Media Centre Master into the episode nfo files be causing the problem?

Removing these headers has fixed the problem. I've added a feature request for serviio to provide compatability with these files produced by Media Center Master as MCM is in common use, and manually removing the additional tags is a pain with a large library that is constantly having new content added.

Re: TV Shows not appearing in Series Folder

Is there a program that generates metadata that will work with serviio?

I wrote a small py script to iterate nfo files and remove offending xbmc_compatible_nfo lines. First argument is root directory, second argument is file ext (default 'nfo').

  Code:
#!/usr/bin/env python

import os
import sys

def main():
    rootdir = sys.argv[1]
    try:
        filefilter = sys.argv[2]
    except IndexError:
        filefilter = 'nfo'
    for root, dirs, files in os.walk(rootdir, topdown=False):
        for file in files:
            if file.lower().endswith(filefilter):
                print 'reading: %s' %(file)
                f = open(os.path.join(root,file),'r')
                f_text_new = ''
                for line in f.readlines():
                    if not 'xbmc_compatible_nfo' in line:
                       f_text_new = f_text_new + line
                f.close()
                f = open(os.path.join(root,file),'w')
                f.write(f_text_new)
                f.close()

if __name__ == "__main__":
    main()
