Sony Bravia KDL-32EX723 2012 model

Never got the popcorn working so I invested in a new telly.

Metadata below. Seems to work with the 2011 Bravia profile file, but I've had 2 s/w updates already so it may be a moving target.

Most of my files are mkv containers, mostly containing subtitles, unfortunately these still get stripped out when transcoded.

The transcode also only takes the primary language, so if it's not the first in the file you have to remux your preferred language as the first in the file, you can't select a 2nd audio track.

Firmware version PKG4.005EUA-0104

Re: Sony Bravia KDL-32EX723 2012 model

2011 models can be identified with the second digit = 2, like : EX720, EX723.
2012 models can be identified with the second digit = 5, like : HX850, EX650, HX750
GetProtocolInfo result is exactly the same than 2011 models:

Re: Sony Bravia KDL-32EX723 2012 model

It seems I have a number of different container formats.
For example this file:

  Code:
stream 0 codec frame rate differs from container frame rate: 47.95 (48000/1001) -> 25.00 (25/1)
Input #0, matroska,webm,
Stream #0.0: Video: h264 (High), yuv420p, 1920x816, PAR 1:1 DAR 40:17, 25 fps, 25 tbr, 1k tbn, 47.95 tbc
Stream #0.1(eng): Audio: ac3, 48000 Hz, stereo, s16, 224 kb/s

Serviio transcodes with :
  Code:
-y -threads 2 -async 1 -vcodec mpeg2video -b 17000k -maxrate 17000k -bufsize 17000k -r 25 -g 15 -copyts -acodec copy -map 0:0 -map 0:1 -sn -f mpegts

And is very slow, roughly 1/8th real time on my machine.

Another file:
  Code:
stream 0 codec frame rate differs from container frame rate: 47.95 (5000000/104271) -> 23.98 (24000/1001)
Input #0, matroska,webm,
Stream #0.0(eng): Video: h264 (High), yuv420p, 1920x1080 [PAR 1:1 DAR 16:9], 23.98 fps, 23.98 tbr, 1k tbn, 47.95 tbc
Stream #0.1(eng): Audio: dca (DTS), 48000 Hz, 5.1, s16, 1536 kb/s (default)
Stream #0.2(eng): Subtitle: ass (default)

is trancoded using
  Code:
-y -async 1 -vcodec copy -vbsf h264_mp4toannexb -copyts -acodec ac3 -ab 384k -ac 6 -map 0:0 -map 0:1 -sn -f mpegts

Which appears to be much less CPU intensive (IO is faster than real time playback)

What should I do with my media files in order to
- reduce the playback trancoding overhead (ideally so they don't need transcoding)
- Ensure they contain all the language and subtitle tracks
- Get rid of those "frame rate differs from container frame rate" warnings where I have them.

Is there a guide to how these files are assembled/can be re-assembled ?

Re: Sony Bravia KDL-32EX723 2012 model

its normal:
Could you provide MediaInfo tool result (in text format) of these two files ?
I suppose that the first one use h264 profile level > 4.1 then not supported by sony device so must be transcode to mpeg2video (more cpu load)
the second use h264 profile level <= 4.1, then could be remux only (less cpu load)

Re: Sony Bravia KDL-32EX723 2012 model

from the protocol info, it should play WMV... not sure if previous models had the same entry, but we are transcoding it (asf) in the 2011 profile

Yes I know, if you read that :
viewtopic.php?f=11&t=3662#p24381

Sony Bravia 2011 model are supposed to support following format, and with current profile, all are transcoded:
ASF files: http-get:*:video/x-ms-asf:*
WMV files: http-get:*:video/x-ms-wmv:*,
MP4 files: http-get:*:video/mp4:*,

But I could not test, I don't have 2011 model and no users wanted to help.

I've got 2 x 2011 sets, I started the 2011 thread. If you have want me to test something just let me know what to change in the profile and pointed to sample files ? I don't have any asf, wmv to hand.

I am mostly curious about what container I can store the movies in to retain all the language/track data, and yet not need any transcoding by serviio to deliver it to my TV.
Why is it that secondary languages and subtitles get stripped from mpeg2ts, is there any way around that ?

- With this mkvmerge version, try to disable "Header Stripping" option, a lots of device does not support header compression on mkv container.
http://wiki.serviio.org/doku.php?id=header_com
- H264 profile level > 4.1 is not supported by sony devices, You can try to change the level with mkvmerge to 4.1

Re: Sony Bravia KDL-32EX723 2012 model

I do have mk3merge, but I was hoping I would do it with ffmpeg as I have about 150 files that need inspecting/remuxing...

I have pulled out the invocations of ffmpeg I can see in the serviio log, but these end up remuxing the files to m2ts and I lose the secondary audio, subtitles and chapters in the process.

I want to work out - for each type of media encoding - what I can do to it so that it can be stored with the additional tracks (for things like my popcorn to use) but have serviio be able to pull out what it needs without transcoding the file - hopefully retaining the additional track data as it delivers it to the TV.

Has anyone worked out the ffmpeg options to get the same verbosity of information from it as mediainfo can achieve ?

I.e what are the options require to list the profile of a given media file ?

Not sure it is supported yet. (I know the new -report option : "Dump full command line and console output to a file named program-YYYYMMDD-HHMMSS.log in the current directory. ")

Not sure to understand the question...
