Denon compatibility

Hi, anobody knows the reason why I see "empty" serviio directory on my Denon AVR device?

I am able to see on Samsung TV the serviio files (pictures in .jpg, music in .mp3 and video in .avi), nevertheless on the Denon AVR4803 device, the media server is seen only as "empty". I am using Win 7 system. It used to work under Win XP and Win Media Player 11 on both Samsung and Denon.
I tried possible solutions listed on FAQ page without success (allowing for annonymous login, ..), switched off firewall, updated seriio to 6.2., but nothing has solved it untill now.
Just to be sure I attached a link to the dlna specification of the product (producer is D&M Holdings Inc.):
http://certification.dlna.org/certs/REG33066605.pdf
Surprisingly the certificate does not mention pictures, but on Win XP I think I was able to view pictures as well.

Happy to hear that somebody has solved it already..

Re: Denon compatibility

Hi. I am also suffering from the same problem except my Denon amplifier is a 3808. My amp can browse different media servers such as Tversity but currently Serviio comes up with an empty listing. I have even tried creating my own profile definition for the amplifier but this has not helped. I have also tried see if there is anything posted in the log when I have enabled DEBUG logging, however there is nothing outputted. I noticed that there was a request for the report for what Device Spy says about my device so I have attached the XML output from this tool. If there is anything else I can provide to help provide support for the Denon amplifier please free feel to ask.

I noticed that you also would like the Connection Manager Invoke output so I have also attached this

Re: Denon compatibility

Hi everyone,
I sent my profile.xml to jiri. Anyway I'm posting the link here too: http://www.mediafire.com/?g2lduxzg26ytusq. The Denon AVR xx11 and xx12 are working well with it. Please overwrite the old profile.xml with the given above. The profile.xml can be found in the serviio's config folder. Please test it. If the units are recognized but the profile still the generic one change it to Denon-AVR - You have only to do it once. If there will be any errors let me know. As I see from files attached by archie_balls his device should be recognized by serviio by it's FrendlyName and Manufacturer. I will need also the list of supported audio formats of this two devices in case if the older Denons do not support the same audio formats as the newest one.

Re: Denon compatibility

Thanks for your quick reply. I have tested out aloha's Denon AVR profile however I am still getting an empty list when I select the serviio server. Do you think there is a small difference in the renderer on the xx08 model? If I can provide more information to help fix this problem free feel to ask.

Re: Denon compatibility

Hi archie_balls,
OK, first of all which files are you trying to play - what extension mp3, flac, mp4, ogg ? - Next i will need to have a list of supported formats by your device, I tried briefly to find some information about those two devices over the net without any success. I presume that, as Denon mark their devices the xx08 is 2008 models, so are they able to play streamed media via LAN? Do you have the latest firmware?. And yes the difference between models from 2008 and 2011 and 2012 can be huge. And a last question can you play any remote source media for example Internet radio? If yes can you tell me in what extension the AVR is showing when playing it.

Re: Denon compatibility

Hi aloha

I currently cannot play any files. When I select the Serviio server via the amplifiers interface I am expecting the next menu to be Audio, Video, Photo. (similar to what I see on my playstation) however the listing just comes up with empty. The Denon amplifier I have is a 3808, which you correctly pointed out is from 2008. I believe that only the 3808 and the 4808 models from that year supported DLNA as they had a RJ45 network port. Except the 4808 also had wifi and could display photo's and album art. The formats that I am aware these amplifiers supported was WAV, MP3, WMA and FLAC. My amplifier is currently running its latest firmware as I find kind of check for updated regularly however I don't think they are making any more firmware updates for this (now) old model. I know my amplifier is working with a DLNA server as I have been successfully using Tversity as the DLNA server for sometime. I was hoping to switch to using Serviio as it has some nice features that Tvserity does not (series info and art). One feature that I like more than anything is that it does not crash when scanning my large collection of movies, music unlike Tversity's latest release 1.9.7.

So to quickly answer your questions
* Extensions of audio file - FLAC and MP3 however I can not browse to them
* The Denon 3808 is LAN enabled
* The latest firmware is installed
* I can successfully play internet radio and stream music from other DLNA servers, Tversity, Window Media player (not so good for large collections) etc
* Not really sure what you mean by extension. If its the profile selected in Serviio, it has correctly selected the Denon profile I lifted from you example profile (which was similar to a profile I tried before posting on this forum). I have even manually selected the profile. If you mean how I control the amplifier it has a build in on screen display (LCD and TV), you can also see the same information via its built in web server. I also have successfully controlled the server via a DLNA control point such as the Android application "All Share" on my Samsung tablet and phone.

Just so you know I am in IT as I am professional developer so feel free to get me to dig into anything as I'm not afraid of getting my hands dirty :-) lol.

Thanks for all you help so far

Re: Denon compatibility

Hi,
So i assume there's no conflict within your network with for example a firewall between the serviio server and the amplifier and all packet reach destination. Try to hard reset the AVR - the procedure is described in the manual on page 58 (I found this information around the net). Another question does serviio recognize now your AVR model and display it on serviio console?

Re: Denon compatibility

Dear aloha,
actually my serviio console (0.6.2 on Win 7 64-bit) is not able to even run with the profiles.xml you sent. I tried to edit it also, but without success. The error it shows always is "serviio server is not runing" eventhough I always start it before. With the original profiles.xml it works (but of course shows "empty").

Thx jiri

This happens with me too. I have a Denon 2112, but Serviio won't run with your profiles, and I had to reinstall the originals.

Re: Denon compatibility

Hi aloha
There is no conflict with my network setup otherwise the Tvsersity server/service which is running on the same machine as the Serviio server/service. Serviio does correctly detect the amplifier with the Denon profile that you provided in you profile.xml (I only extracted the denon profile section and not copy the profile.xml file over the top of the original one). Not super keen to hard resting my AVR but I will back my settings up and give it ago for you however I don't see now that would fix the problem as I can use other servers. Not sure whether this piece of information will help but in Tvsersity the Denon amplifiers are detected as a Phillips device. I believe Denon must use the same or similar implementations of the protocol. I think I found this out by reviewing the Tvsersity's profile xml file and there was a comment in stating this.

@archi_balls
You can save your configuration using the web browser before resetting. I had also the same problem as you all with my Denon 3311 at the beginning for me the processor reset solved this issue. Yes it's the same protocol because it's DLNA compliant :). Could You send me the profile script of TVersity? I will take a look. Are you running both DLNA servers at the same time on the same machine?

Still a no go for me. I shut down the Serviio server and console. I renamed the original profile, extracted the new one, then restarted the server. I attempt to open the console, and get the same error message that the "server is not running" and exits. I can't seem to get this running.

OK, this one works, I can start up the Serviio server and console no problem, but there's no Denon profile under Profiles. Did I miss something? Thanks.

Alright, the Denon AVR profile didn't show up, until I rebooted my computer. I then manually selected it, clicked save, then went to restart the server. I click on it, and the server just won't start. I shut down the Console completely, attempted to restart the server, then open the Console again, and it won't work. I get the "server not running error" again.

I'm going to have to go back to the original profile for now. I'm running Windows 7 if that matters. I'll see if others have success with it before I try again, but I just can't get it running. :(

Re: Denon compatibility

HI again,
So i installed serviio on windows 7 32bits and x64 with the above profile and it's working fine. Instead stopping and starting the serviio service try to reboot your serviio host machine.
